Cases: Two elderly women with significant medical comorbidities presented to a community hospital setting after new-onset generalized seizure activity while in bed without a history of trauma. Both were diagnosed by computed tomography scan with bilateral acetabular fractures. Owing to altered mental status from a postictal period, both were unable to be reliably assessed for pain, which resulted in a diagnostic delay.

Conclusions: These cases highlight the importance of a proper secondary survey on mentally altered patients even without a history of significant trauma, a high index of suspicion for associated injuries in seizure patients, and the use of appropriate advanced imaging.

Objective: By comparing the hip arthroplasty parameters planned with the AIHIP three-dimensional simulation surgery system, this study analyzes the accuracy of the new femoral-side "shoulder-to-shoulder" artificial anatomical marker positioning method in femoral-side prosthesis implantation and the prevention of leg length discrepancy in hip arthroplasty.

Methods: A retrospective collection of 47 patients who underwent initial total hip arthroplasty at our hospital from August 2020 to December 2022 and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria was used as the study subjects. The average age was 67.

Purpose: The relationship between sagittal lumbopelvic alignment and the bony pathomorphology of hip dysplasia is currently at the forefront of clinical and scientific interest. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a compensatory lumbopelvic aspect associated with the two major acetabular phenotypes in dysplastic hips.

Methods: From September 2022 to March 2024, a total of 145 patients with symptomatic bilateral hip dysplasia were included in the study.

Background: Three-dimensional MR fingerprinting (3D-MRF) has been increasingly used to assess cartilage degeneration, particularly in the knee joint, by looking into multiple relaxation parameters. A comparable 3D-MRF approach can be adapted to assess cartilage degeneration for the hip joint, with changes to accommodate specific challenges of hip joint imaging.

Purpose: To demonstrate the feasibility and repeatability of 3D-MRF in the bilateral hip jointly we map proton density (PD), T, T, T, and ∆B in clinically feasible scan times.

Treatment and Rehabilitation of Complicated Fractures of Both Lower Limbs: A Case Report.

J Orthop Case Rep

December 2024

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Sapporo Medical University, School of Medicine, Sapporo, Japan.

Introduction: Few studies have reported the treatment and rehabilitation of combined fractures of the femur, tibia, and ankle in the same lower limb.

Case Report: A 69-year-old man presented to our hospital with a fall injury due to high-energy trauma after falling from a 5 m ladder while painting and landing on both feet. Examination revealed right femoral supracondylar; left tibial plateau; right calcaneal; left ankle crush; first and third lumbar vertebrae burst; sacral; C7, Th1, and Th9 compression; and bilateral acetabular fractures.

Introduction: The adoption of new techniques, such as the direct anterior (DA) approach, and technologies, such as robotic assistance, in total hip arthroplasty (THA) has the potential to alleviate the intraoperative physical and mental demand that surgeons experience. Therefore, the aim of this study is to compare the physical and mental demand of surgeons performing conventional DA THA with fluoroscopy and robotic-assisted DA THA without fluoroscopy.

Methods: Two orthopaedic surgeons completed bilateral DA THA's on six cadaveric specimens.
