Medical treatment of certain diseases and biomedical implants are tending to use delivery systems on the nanoscale basis for biologically active factors including drugs (e. g. antibiotics) or growth factors. Nanoparticles are a useful tool to deliver bioactive substances of different chemical nature directly to the site where it is required in the patient. Here we developed three innovative delivery systems based on different polysaccharides in order to induce a sustained release of TGF-β to mediate chondrogenesis of human mesenchymal stromal cells. We were able to encapsulate the protein into nanoparticles and subsequently release TGF-β from these particles. The protein was still active and was able to induce chondrogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) provide diverse applications across a wide range of scientific disciplines, including drug/nucleic acid (NA) delivery. In the subclass of MOFs, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is well regarded due to its exceptional physicochemical properties. Biomolecules can be encapsulated and released under precise conditions within ZIF, making it an important material for materials science and biomedical applications.

Chloroethenes (CHCl with = 1, 2, 3, 4) are produced and consumed in various industrial processes. As the release of these compounds into air, water, and soils can pose significant risks to human health and the environment, different techniques have been exploited to prevent or remediate chloroethene pollution. Although several previous experimental and computational studies investigated the removal of chloroethenes using zeolite adsorbents, their structural diversity in terms of pore size and pore topology has hardly been explored so far.

Importance: Increasing rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have been associated with rises in serious morbidity. While doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP), a strategy in which individuals take doxycycline, 200 mg, after condomless sex to prevent bacterial STIs, has been shown to be efficacious in randomized clinical trials, doxyPEP's potential effect on population-level STI incidence is unknown.
Objective: To assess the association of citywide doxyPEP guideline release with reported chlamydia, gonorrhea, and early syphilis cases in men who have sex with men (MSM) and in transgender women in San Francisco, California.

Five pregnane C21-steroids, including three 5,6-epoxy steroids (1-3) and two 8,14-seco-steroids (4 and 5), were isolated from the acid hydrolysate of Cynanchum bungei roots. Cynbungenins L-O (1-4) are previously undescribed compounds. Compound 3 with a 5a,6a-epoxy group represents the first example found in the Cynanchum plants.

Photoresponsive drug delivery systems have great potential for improved cancer therapy. However, most of the currently available drug-delivery nanosystems are relatively large and require light excitation with low tissue penetration. Here, we designed a near infrared responsive drug delivery system by loading [Ru(terpyridine)(dipyridophenazine)(HO)] (Ru(tpy)DPPZ) in azobenzene-modified mesoporous silica coated NaGdF:Nd/Yb/Tm upconversion nanoparticles (azo-mSiO-UCNPs).
