AI Article Synopsis

  • The study focuses on adapting and validating the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) for Spanish women with pelvic floor disorders (PFD).
  • The Spanish FSFI was developed through a careful translation process, ensuring it accurately reflects the original meaning and context in Spanish.
  • The results indicate that this adapted FSFI is a reliable and valid tool for assessing sexual function in this population, with strong results in various psychometric properties.

Article Abstract

Background: The evaluation of sexual function is an important outcome in women who suffer some pelvic floor disorders (PFD). The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) is the most widely used questionnaire to evaluate the sexual health in female population. This study presents the adaptation and psychometric validation of the FSFI for Spanish women with PFD.

Methods: The Spanish version of the FSFI was developed through the forward and backward translation process. The psychometric properties of reliability, validity, responsiveness, and feasibility were conducted in Spanish women with PFD who were assigned to the case or control group (with or without sexual dysfunction respectively).

Results: A total of 323 Spanish women with PFD were recruited. The cross-cultural adaptation of the Spanish FSFI achieved a good semantic, conceptual, idiomatic, and content equivalence. The test-retest reliability was shown to be high in all of the cases. The convergent validity showed high results in the domain intercorrelations between each domain and total FSFI. The discriminant validity showed statistically significant differences between sexual dysfunction and control groups. The responsiveness was shown to be moderate to good in the dimensions and excellent in the total FSFI.

Conclusions: Spanish FSFI can be used as a reliable, valid, responsive, and feasible instrument for assessing sexual function in women.

Objective: Functional seizures (FS) are a highly debilitating symptom of functional neurological disorder (FND). FS requires a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment because the patient's initial presentation is to neurology, emergency medicine, or primary care and treatment consists of psychotherapy. People with FS commonly experience severe childhood trauma, particularly sexual trauma.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) is a prevalent condition in postmenopausal women characterized by symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itching, and urinary tract issues due to declining estrogen levels. Despite its widespread impact on quality of life, GSM often remains underdiagnosed and without effective treatment. This study assessed the long-term efficacy of fractional CO laser treatment in alleviating GSM symptoms in perimenopausal women.

Acetabular fractures are rare fractures of the pelvis which usually result from trauma. Whilst data are reported on sexual and genitourinary function in those with pelvic fractures, less is known about those with isolated acetabulum fractures. This systematic review aimed to determine, first, the frequency of sexual and genitourinary dysfunction following isolated acetabulum fractures and, second, the nature of these complications.

The autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA) is a rare condition caused by an immune response associated with over-reactivity of the immune system, triggered by adjuvants. The most common adjuvants are aluminium salts but can also be bioimplants or infectious agents. It may lead to the development of various autoimmunologic diseases.

Sexual-Sparing Radical Cystectomy in the Robot-Assisted Era: A Review on Functional and Oncological Outcomes.

Cancers (Basel)

Urology Unit, Department of Medico-Surgical Sciences & Biotechnologies, Faculty of Pharmacy & Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, 04100 Latina, Italy.

: Radical cystectomy (RC) is the standard treatment for muscle-invasive and high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer, but it often results in significant functional impairments, including sexual and urinary dysfunction, adversely affecting quality of life (QoL). Sexual-sparing robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) has been introduced to mitigate these effects. This review evaluates the oncological and functional outcomes of sexual-sparing RARC in male and female patients.
