Purpose: This in vitro study evaluated marginal integrity, 2-body wear, and fracture behavior of an array of bonded and nonbonded posterior restorative materials after thermomechanical loading (TML).
Materials And Methods: Eighty-eight MOD cavities with one proximal box beneath the CEJ were prepared in extracted human third molars according to a well-established protocol. Direct restorations were made using the following materials: amalgam (Dispersalloy), Ketac Molar Quick, Surefil One (with or without light curing), Activa, AdheSE Universal/Heliomolar, Fuji II LC improved, Equia Forte, Scotchbond Universal/Filtek Supreme, Xeno V+/CeramX.mono+, Prime&Bond active/Spectra ST CeramX HV, Prime&Bond elect/Spectra ST CeramX HV. Before and after thermomechanical loading (2500/5000/12,500 thermocycles between 5°C and 55°C + 100,000/ 200,000/500,000 x 50 N), marginal gaps and 2-body wear depths were analyzed on epoxy resin replicas using SEM and CLSM. Fractures were observed under a light microscope (20X). Results were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U-tests (p < 0.05).
Results: For marginal quality, Surefil One showed promising in vitro behavior close to that of resin composite bonded with a self-etch adhesive (p > 0.05). For wear, amalgam and resin composites with recent filler technology were still superior (p < 0.05), but Surefil One LC outperformed Activa, Ketac Molar Quick, Equia Forte Fil, and Fuji II LC (p < 0.05). When Surefil One was occlusally light cured, no fractures occured, even after 500,000 cycles of TML.
Conclusion: The novel self-adhesive posterior restorative Surefil One did not exhibit superior outcomes for all evaluated aspects. However, it showed stable fracture behavior, good marginal quality, and acceptable wear resistance in vitro.

Targeting the development of 3D printed reservoir-like vaginal rings (VRs) intended to fulfill the needs of precision medicine, prototypes ensuring prolonged release of metronidazole (MTZ) were preliminary manufactured and tested. Indeed, this drug represents the first-line therapy against bacterial vaginosis, which would especially benefit from convenient as well as easy dose adjustment and from more than 48 h continuous release, thus avoiding barely tolerated and repeated administrations. Starting from a soft thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), hollow ring structures were successfully printed at 190 °C and then extemporaneously filled with drug-loaded, in-situ-crosslinking hydrogel formulations based on alginate (ALG).

Objective: To investigate the effect of cervical margin relocation with four different injectable restorative materials on the fracture resistance of molars receiving mesio-occluso-distal CAD/CAM nanoceramic onlay restorations.
Materials And Methods: One hundred and five sound mandibular molars received a standardized mesio-occluso-distal onlay preparation, with cervical margins located 2 mm apical to the cemento-enamel junction. The molars were randomly allocated into five groups (n = 21) according to the cervical relocating materials used: Group I had no cervical margin relocation; Group II used a highly viscous glass ionomer; Group III used a highly-filled injectable resin composite; Group IV used a resin-modified glass ionomer; and Group V used a bioactive ionic resin.

Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) metamaterials show promise for thermal management systems but are challenging to integrate into existing packaging with strict mechanical requirements. Composite TPMS lattices may offer more control over thermal and mechanical properties through material and geometric tuning. Here, we fabricate copper-plated, 3D-printed triply periodic minimal surface primitive lattices and evaluate their suitability for battery thermal management systems.

Objectives: A new abutment-free implant connection allows for direct screwing of FDPs on implants to avoid complications caused by cement rests or screw loosening, which may affect to screw torque and load distribution. The objective of this study was to test the initial (Fi) and final failure (Ff) loads and torque changes of abutment-free monolithic zirconia CAD-CAM fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) compared to titanium FDPs on different abutment designs.
Methods: Three-unit screw-retained FDPs (n = 50) on two implants (n = 100) were divided into groups (n = 10) based on the implant-abutment connection and material of the supra-structure: (1) abutment-free monolithic CAD-CAM zirconia FDP (Abut-free-Zr), (2) abutment-free veneered titanium FDPs (Abut-free-Ti), (3) monolithic zirconia FDPs with titanium base abutments (Zr-Ti-Base), (4) monolithic zirconia FDPs on multi-unit abutments (Zr-MU), (5) veneered titanium FDP on multi-unit abutments (Ti-MU).
