A green sample preparation method based on aqueous extraction followed by dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) with in situ derivatization (ISD) was developed for the determination of aflatoxins (AFs) in traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). AFs in TCMs were extracted by alkaline aqueous solution and converted to substituted coumaric acids. Then, mixed-mode anion exchange (MAX) sorbent was used to isolate and enrich the substituted coumaric acids. During the elution by acetonitrile/trifluoroacetic acid solution, AFs were reconstructed and in situ derivatized. Several parameters affecting the procedure were evaluated. The developed preparation method coupled with high performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection was successfully applied for AFs determination in TCMs. The limit of detection (LOD) reached 10 pg/mL for AFs. Good linearity was obtained in three orders of magnitude with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9996 to 0.9999. The relative recoveries of the method were between 72.7% and 114.5% with intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) less than 9.5% and 10.1%, respectively. The method was successfully applied to determine AFs in 15 kinds of TCMs in China, with the results verified by IAC standard method.

With the encroaching issue of water pollution, the use of involved chemicals to remove pollutants from water is not only a risk of chemical contamination, a potential hazard to the environment and human health but also requires significant investment in managing and improving the chemicals. Therefore, alginate as one of the nanomaterial-adorned polysaccharides-based entity that usually extract from brown algae has been used as novel and more efficient catalysts in the removal of a variety of aqueous pollutants from wastewater, including ionic metals and organic/inorganic pollutants by using the adsorption techniques. Adsorption is a technique used in water treatment where non-polar or particles less soluble in water are stuck to the surface of the adsorbent and therefore purifying it.

Obesity is a global epidemic often associated with serious medical complications such as diabetes, hypertension and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis. Considering the multifactorial nature of these diseases, medicinal plants could be a valuable therapeutic strategy as their phytoconstituents interact with multiple and relevant biological targets. In this context, Ilex paraguariensis emerges as a potential alternative to treat obesity and associated metabolic diseases since several studies have demonstrated its anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity and anti-diabetic effects.

Objective: To develop a rapid, convenient, accurate, and low-residual-effect ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for the determination of polymyxin B sulfate and colistin sulfate in the blood of patients with multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, as well as caspofungin acetate in the blood of patients with fungal infections, thus facilitating the rational use of antibiotics in clinical applications.
Methods: All analytes were diluted with 0.2 % aqueous formic acid, and plasma proteins were precipitated using acetonitrile.

Rationale: Extraterrestrial amines and ammonia are critical ingredients for the formation of astrobiologically important compounds such as amino acids and nucleobases. However, conventional methods for analyzing the composition and isotopic ratios of volatile amines suffer from lengthy derivatization and purification procedures, high sample mass consumption, and chromatographic interferences from derivatization reagents and non-target compounds.
Methods: Here we demonstrate a highly efficient method to analyze the composition and compound specific isotopic ratios of C to C amines as well as ammonia based on solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) on-fiber derivatization.

This research successfully synthesized semiconductive magnesioferrite (MgFeO) nanomaterials using a green chemistry method that utilizes the natural extract of Moringa olefeira serving as both a reducing and oxidizing agent. The optical characteristics and crystalline structure of the MgFeO nanomaterials were analysed using photoluminescence, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Additionally, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy provided valuable insights into the chemical bonding and composition.
