The Green for Good (G4G) conferences bring together plant science researchers mainly from Europe, as well as guests from overseas. As with previous G4G conferences, the 5th event (G4G V) was held at Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic, organized by the Centre of Region Haná for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research and the European Federation of Biotechnology. The meeting focused on trends in plant biotechnology, genetics and biochemistry to identify the basis for solving the global challenge of providing food for an ever-growing population. The invited speakers provided insights into plant genomics, gene-editing, plant molecular farming and application of nanomaterials. This conference meeting report summarizes key lectures given by a variety of excellent speakers.

Roxarsone (V) (Rox(V)) is an organoarsenical compound that poses significant risks to aquatic ecosystems and various diseases. Reducing trivalent 3-amino-4-hydroxyphenylarsonic acid (HAPA(III)) offers a competitive advantage; however, it leads to localized arsenic contamination, which can disrupt the soil microbiome and impede plant growth. Three genes, BsntrA, arsC2, and BsexpA, encoding nitroreductase, arsenate reductase, and MFS transporter, respectively, were identified in the Rox(V)-resistant strain Brevundimonas sp.

Background: Preserving plant genetic resources is essential for tackling global food security challenges. Effectively meeting future agricultural demands requires comprehensive and efficient assessments of genetic diversity in breeding programs and germplasm from gene banks. This research investigated the diversity of pheno-morphological traits, along with the fatty acid and tocopherol content and composition, in 135 double haploid lines of camelina.

Significant changes in the proteome highlight essential metabolic adaptations for development and oxidative signaling induced by the treatment of young sugarcane plants with hydrogen peroxide. These adaptations suggest that hydrogen peroxide acts not only as a stressor but primarily as a signaling molecule, triggering specific metabolic pathways that regulate growth and plant resilience. Sugarcane is a crucial crop for sugar and ethanol production, often influenced by environmental signals.

Ensuring species integrity and successful reproduction is pivotal for the survival of angiosperms. Members of Brassicaceae family employ a "lock and key" mechanism involving stigmatic (sRALFs) and pollen RALFs (pRALFs) binding to FERONIA, a Catharanthus roseus receptor-like kinase 1-like (CrRLK1L) receptor, to establish a prezygotic hybridization barrier. In the absence of compatible pRALFs, sRALFs bind to FERONIA, inducing a lock state for pollen tube penetration.

The main contributor to Türkiye's abundant freshwater fish biodiversity is its geographic location. This fauna consists of endemic, native, and non-native fish species. The introduction of Gambusia holbrooki Girard, 1859 to Lake Amik in the 1920s for the biological control of malaria was the first introduction of nonnative species to Türkiye.
