A tensile machine is designed for in situ scattering investigation of elastomers in the cyclic tensile process. The specimen is stretched by two linearly moving clamps in the opposite direction; thus, the center of the specimen is kept stationary during the tensile test. With this configuration, either X-ray scattering or neutron scattering can be carried out easily. A high speed direct current motor is used to drive the machine, providing a wide tensile speed range from 1.28 × 10 mm/s to 102.4 mm/s. Cyclic tension is achieved by program controlled motor rotation, and the engineering stress-strain curve can be saved automatically in each cycle. Moreover, an independent displacement sensor is used to check the possible accumulative error of position during cyclic tension. The orientation change of multiwall carbon nanotube filled silicon rubber is investigated by small angle neutron scattering to test the machine, which shows that the machine is capable of combining the cyclic tensile test with in situ scattering measurement.

Background: There is growing evidence that medial meniscotibial ligament (MTL) deficiency and medial meniscus extrusion may precede the development of some medial meniscus posterior root (MMPR) tears. However, no study has investigated the biomechanical consequences of MTL deficiency on the MMPR.
Hypothesis: (1) MTL deficiency leads to increased medial meniscus extrusion, (2) increased medial meniscus extrusion is correlated with increased compression and shear forces at the MMPR, and (3) MTL repair restores medial meniscus extrusion and MMPR forces to native levels.

The development of chemically recyclable polymers for sustainable 3D printing is crucial to reducing plastic waste and advancing towards a circular polymer economy. Here, we introduce a new class of polythioenones (PCTE) synthesized via Michael addition-elimination ring-opening polymerization (MAEROP) of cyclic thioenone (CTE) monomers. The designed monomers are straightforward to synthesize, scalable and highly modular, and the resulting polymers display mechanical performance superior to commodity polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene.

Electropolymerized polypyrrole (PPy) is considered as one of the promising polymers for use in ionic-electroactive or conducting polymer (CP) actuators. Its electromechanical properties surpass those of other prominent CPs such as poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS) or polyaniline. However, freestanding and linear contracting actuator fibers made solely of electropolymerized PPy are not available yet.

Before patients begin out-of-bed exercises following internal fixation surgery for acetabular fractures, turning over in bed serves as a crucial intervention to mitigate complications associated with prolonged bed rest. However, data on the safety of this maneuver post-surgery are limited, and the biomechanical evidence remains unclear. This study aims to introduce a novel loading protocol designed to preliminarily simulate the action of turning over in bed and to compare the biomechanical properties of two fixation methods for acetabular fractures under this new protocol.
