Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) technology has been demonstrated to be a facile approach for in-situ monitoring atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A series of tertraphenyl ethylene (TPE)-containing α-bromo compounds were synthesized and applied as ATRP initiators. The photoluminescent (PL) emission of the polymerization system is proved to be sensitive to the local viscosity owing to the AIE characteristics of TPE. Linear relationships between the resulting molecular weight M and PL intensity were observed in several polymerization systems with different monomers, indicating the variability of this technique. Compared to physical blending, the chemical bonding of the TPE group in the chain end has higher sensitivity and accuracy to the polymer segments and the surrounding environment. This work promoted the combination of the AIE technique and controlled living radical polymerization, and introduced such an optical research platform to the ATRP polymerization process.

Bacterial keratitis (BK) is a type of corneal inflammation resulting from bacterial infection in the eye. Although nanozymes have been explored as promising materials in corneal wound healing, currently available nanozymes lack sufficient catalytic activity and the ability to penetrate bacterial biofilms, limiting their efficacy against the treatment of BK. To remedy this, ZnFe layered double hydroxide (ZnFe-LDH) nanosheets are loaded with Cu single-atom nanozymes (Cu-SAzymes) and aminated dextran (Dex-NH), resulting in the formation of the nanozyme DT-ZnFe-LDH@Cu, which possesses peroxidase (POD)-, oxidase (OXD)-, and catalase (CAT)-like catalytic activities.

In this work, laponite (LAP) was used to develop the silver (Ag) based nanocomposite for improved anti-bacterial action and wound healing properties. The amphiphilic co-polymers such as PLGA polymer was embedded with the surface of LAP molecules and polyethyleneimine (PEI) through the interaction of hydrophobic binding and it was formed as LAP/PLA-PEG/PEI formulation through the coupling chemistry. The Ag nanoparticles was loaded into formulation to develop LAP/PLA-PEG/PEI/Ag nanocomposite and characterized by different analytical techniques.

Utilization of reusable catalysts and reaction media has recently been an area of interest to devise a sustainable approach. Interestingly, photoinduced reversible deactivation radical polymerization (photoRDRP) of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) is achieved with reusable and magnetically separable nano zero-valent Iron (nZVI). This resulted in well-defined poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) (upto 22700 g mol) with a low dispersity (Đ ≤ 1.

Janus graft copolymers, which combine the characteristics of block and graft copolymers, have been used in the fields of reaction catalysis, surface modification, and drug delivery, but their applications in lithium batteries have rarely been reported. Herein, Janus graft copolymers with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polystyrene (PS) side chains are synthesized by combining reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) methods and doped with lithium salts to fabricate Janus bottlebrush polymer electrolytes (PEG-J-PS). The PEG side chains of the brush polymers impart good ion-conducting properties to the electrolytes, while the PS side chains improve the mechanical strength and thermal and chemical stability of the electrolytes.

Hexaarylbiimidazole (HABI) molecules have awakened a broad interest in photo-processing, super-resolution imaging, photoinduced self-healing materials, and photomechanical hydrogels due to their excellent photosensitivity and photo-induced cleavage properties. In this work, a novel photoswitchable branched polyurethanes (BPU), which are synthesized by copolymerizing HABI with glycerol, isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and polyethylene glycol (PEG), is designed. 7-Diethylamino-4-methylcoumarin (DMCO) is introduced as a radical quencher, which can not only avoid the hydroxyl interfering from conventional radical scavengers during the polymerization process but also promote efficient quenching of TPIR radicals.
