Over the past decade, improvements in technology and methods have enabled rapid and relatively inexpensive generation of high-quality RNA-seq datasets. These datasets have been used to characterize gene expression for several yeast species and have provided systems-level insights for basic biology, biotechnology and medicine. Herein, we discuss new techniques that have emerged and existing techniques that enable analysts to extract information from multifactorial yeast RNA-seq datasets. Ultimately, this minireview seeks to inspire readers to query datasets, whether previously published or freshly obtained, with creative and diverse methods to discover and support novel hypotheses.

Cellular senescence precipitates a decline in physiological activities and metabolic functions, often accompanied by heightened inflammatory responses, diminished immune function, and impaired tissue and organ performance. Despite extensive research, the mechanisms underpinning cellular senescence remain incompletely elucidated. Emerging evidence implicates circadian rhythm and hypoxia as pivotal factors in cellular senescence.

Assessment of the tumor immune microenvironment can be used as a prognostic tool for improved survival and as a predictive biomarker for treatment benefit, particularly from immune modulating treatments including cytotoxic chemotherapy. Using Digital Spatial Profiling (DSP), we studied the tumor immune microenvironment of 522 breast cancer cases by quantifying 35 immune biomarkers on tissue microarrays from the MA.5 phase III clinical trial.

: Bempedoic acid (BA) is a novel cholesterol-lowering agent with proven positive effects on cardiovascular endpoints. Because it is an inhibitor of the hepatic transporters OATP1B1 and OATP1B3, two uptake transporters regulating the intrahepatic availability of statins, it increases the systemic exposure of co-administered statins. This interaction could raise the risk of myopathy.

In the field of ultrasound therapy, the estimation of temperature to monitor treatments is becoming essential. We hypothesize that it is possible to measure temperature directly using a constant acoustic power burst. Under the assumption that the acoustic attenuation does not change significantly with temperature, the thermal strain induced by such bursts presents a linear relation with temperature.

Urethral strictures and bladder neck contractures (BNCs) can be significantly morbid for patients and may require intervention for effective urinary drainage. We hypothesized patients with abnormal scarring disorders, such as keloids or hypertrophic scars, are at elevated risks of urethroplasty failure as well as postprocedural urethral strictures and BNCs. We queried the TriNetX database to determine the risk of urethroplasty failure for patients with abnormal scarring disorders compared to controls.
