Background: The mean platelet volume (MPV) is an important indicator of platelet function with large platelets showing higher enzymatic and metabolic activity than other platelets. There can be a relationship between increased platelet activity and anxiety and depression. Our primary hypothesis was that patients with high anxiety scores would have higher MPV, and the secondary hypothesis was that propofol induction time and total propofol consumption within the first 30 min of surgery would be higher in patients with higher anxiety scores.
Methods: The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) was administered to the participating patients 1 day before surgery to evaluate the level of anxiety. Based on the scores from the BAI, 40 patients with an anxiety score of < 8 were assigned to the non-anxious group (Group NA) and 40 patients with an anxiety score of ≥8 were assigned to the anxious group (Group A). At the anesthesia induction the mean time to achieve an entropy value below 60 (T1) was recorded. The total intraoperative propofol consumption within the first 30 min was recorded.
Results: There was a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of preoperative MPV and demographic data, including age and sex. The mean total propofol consumption at 30 min after induction in the groups was statistically significant. The cut-off value for MPV was calculated as 9.65.
Conclusions: The preoperative MPV values and propofol consumption at 30 min among patients with high preoperative anxiety scores were high. We suggest that MPV is helpful in the clinical practice in predicting the amount of anesthetic agents required for the 30 mins of anesthesia.

Background: Blood biomarkers offers an independent insight for the pathophysiology of hyperbilirubinemia. However, they are not practically used for the differential diagnosis of the hyperbilirubinemia severity. Therefore, the current study aimed to assess the differential diagnostic value of peripheral blood biomarkers with disease severity as an alternative.

Fedratinib is a predominantly JAK2 inhibitor that has shown efficacy in untreated and ruxolitinib-exposed patients with myelofibrosis (MF). Based on randomized clinical trial data, it is approved for use in patients with International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS) or Dynamic International Prognostic Scoring System (DIPSS) intermediate-2 or high-risk disease and is distinguished from ruxolitinib in that it can be administered without dose reduction in patients with thrombocytopenia, to a platelet count above 50,000/µL. In these trials, fedratinib achieved significant spleen volume reduction in ~30-45% of patients and improvement in total symptom scores in 35-40% with good tolerability.

Methods: Platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), plateletcrit (PCT), and platelet distribution width (PDW) data were obtained from the GWAS catalog database as exposure factors. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) data were obtained from the FinnGen database as outcome indicators.

Background: Repeated polyserositis, another name for familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), is an autoimmune disorder with an autosomal recessive nature primarily characterized by short-lived repeated periods of peritonitis, pleuritis, and arthritis, generally accompanied by fever.
Methods: Our participants were divided into two groups. Group I (patients): 100 individuals who were diagnosed as patients with FMF and were monitored.

In order to construct a clinical classification prediction model for hydrocephalus after intercerebral haemorrhage(ICH) to guide clinical treatment decisions, this paper retrospectively analyses the clinical data of 844 cases of ICH and hydrocephalus inpatients admitted to Yueyang People's Hospital from May 2019 to October 2022, of which 95 cases of hydrocephalus occurred after ICH and no hydrocephalus in 749 cases. The following indicators were compared between the two groups of patients: gender, age, Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS)score, whether the amount of bleeding was greater than 30 ml, whether it broke into the ventricle or not, modified Graeb score(MGS), modified Rankin Scale (MRS) score, whether surgery was performed or not, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. After variable screening, the following six variables were selected: GCS score, MGS, MRS score, whether the bleeding volume was greater than 30 ml, whether it broke into the ventricle or not, and whether surgery was performed or not were modelled and analysed using logistic regression model and support vector machine model in machine learning.
