Soliton explosion is an extremely pulsating behavior of the bright dissipative soliton (DS) in ultrafast lasers. By numerical simulation, we find that the dark soliton (DAS) can coexist with the bright soliton during the exploding process. The collapsed temporal structure of the exploding soliton is induced by the DASs. We reveal the birthing, evolving, and decaying of the DASs inside the bright DS. The time-frequency analysis of the exploding soliton helps us better understand the temporal and spectral structures of the exploding soliton, which might be useful for real-time spectroscopy of the coexisting dark and bright solitons during the soliton explosion.

Inherent periodic collisions in dual-wavelength mode-locked fiber lasers (MLFLs) stimulate various intra-cavity collision dynamic phenomena. Analogous to the collision of matter particles, collisions between optical soliton molecules (SMs) and single solitons (SSs) have been observed by the real-time spectral measurements. It is demonstrated that the energy accumulation after the collision caused by internal motion within bound pulses leads to soliton pair (SP) explosions, while the periodic soliton explosions with another cavity parameter setting are almost unaffected by the collision.

We find that when a stable soliton is generated, its state of polarization shifts toward a stable state, and when the soliton is generated with excess power levels it experiences relaxation oscillations in its intensity and timing. On the other hand, when a soliton is generated in an unstable state of polarization, it either decays in intensity until it disappears, or its temporal width decreases until it explodes into several solitons, and then it disappears.

Herein, we report on the investigation of soliton explosions in an ultrafast fiber laser operating in the multi-soliton regime. It is demonstrated that explosion of one soliton could be induced by another one through the soliton interactions mediated by the transient gain response of an erbium-doped fiber.

We investigate the interaction of stationary and oscillatory dissipative solitons in the framework of two coupled cubic-quintic complex Ginzburg-Landau equation for counter-propagating waves. We analyze the case of a stabilizing as well as a destabilizing cubic cross-coupling between the counter-propagating dissipative solitons. The three types of interacting localized solutions investigated are stationary, oscillatory with one frequency, and oscillatory with two frequencies.
