Sm ions doped strontium lithium lead borate glasses (SLLB:Sm) were prepared using a conventional melt-quenching technique. The glasses were analyzed using X-ray diffractometry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, optical absorption, fluorescence spectral analysis, and fluorescence lifetime decay. The Judd-Ofelt (J-O) parameters and radiative parameters of the SLLB:Sm10 glass (1.0 mol% Sm ion-doped glass) were calculated using J-O theory. From the emission spectra, among all the synthesized glass, SLLB:Sm10 glass had the highest emission intensity for G → H transition (610 nm). Emission parameters, such as stimulated emission cross-section and optical gain bandwidth, were calculated. For all concentrations of Sm ions, the decay profile showed an exponential nature and decreased when the Sm ion concentration was increased due to a concentration quenching effect. This result suggests that the synthesized SLLB:Sm10 glass could be used for application in high-density optical memory devices.

Background: Very premature infants screened for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) that do not develop ROP still experience serious visual developmental challenges, and while it is recommended that all children in the UK are offered preschool visual screening, we aimed to explore whether this vulnerable group requires dedicated follow-up.
Methods: We performed a real-world retrospective observational cohort study of children previously screened for ROP in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Scotland) between 2013 and 2015. We excluded those with any severity of ROP identified during screening.

The accurate measurement of cooking vessel temperatures in induction hobs is crucial for ensuring optimal cooking performance and safety. To achieve this, improvements in existing measurement methods such as thermocouples, thermistors, and infrared (IR) temperature sensors are being explored. However, traditional IR sensors are sensitive to interference from the heated glass ceramic, severely affecting accuracy.

In this study, a simple and easy synthesis strategy to realize the modification of AuHgPt nanoalloy materials on the surface of ITO glass at room temperature is presented. Gold nanoparticles as templates were obtained by electrochemical deposition, mercury was introduced as an intermediate to form an amalgam, and then a galvanic replacement reaction was utilized to successfully prepare gold-mercury-platinum (AuHgPt) nanoalloys. The obtained alloys were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques.

Due to their lipophilicity and low content, the major sesame oleosin allergens, Ses i 4 and Ses i 5, are challenging to identify using conventional techniques. Then, a novel unlabeled electrochemical immunosensor was developed to detect the potential allergic activity of sesame oleosins. The voltammetric immunosensor was constructed using a composite of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), polyethyleneimine (PEI), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), which was synthesized in a one-pot process and modified onto a glass carbon electrode to enhance the catalytic current of the oxygen reduction reaction.
