Sunn pest or Sunn bug, Put., salivary gland proteases are responsible for the deterioration of wheat flour quality during dough mixing, resulting from gluten hydrolysis. These proteases are highly heterogeneous and show low sensitivity to most types of proteinaceous inhibitors, meaning that such inhibitors cannot be used to prevent gluten damage. The present study describes the generation of a specific peptide antibody, raised against the active center of the recombinant gluten-hydrolyzing protease (GHP3). The recombinant protein, encoding two repeats of the GHP3 sequence element involved in forming the S4 pocket and binding of substrate at position P4, was designed and expressed in . The antibodies raised to this recombinant protein showed inhibitory activity against the GHP3 protease. The results indicate that it is possible to design specific antibodies to inhibit wheat-bug gluten-hydrolyzing proteases.

Neutralizing antibody immune correlates in COVAIL trial recipients of an mRNA second COVID-19 vaccine boost.

Nat Commun

Neutralizing antibody titer has been a surrogate endpoint for guiding COVID-19 vaccine approval and use, although the pandemic's evolution and the introduction of variant-adapted vaccine boosters raise questions as to this surrogate's contemporary performance. For 985 recipients of an mRNA second bivalent or monovalent booster containing various Spike inserts [Prototype (Ancestral), Beta, Delta, and/or Omicron BA.1 or BA.

Increased industrial offshore activities in northern waters raise the question of impact of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on key Arctic marine species. One of these is the ecologically important polar cod (Boreogadus saida), which is the primary food source for Arctic marine mammals and seabirds. In the present work, we have conducted the first comprehensive proteomics study with this species by exploring the effects of dietary PAH exposure on the hepatic proteome, using benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) as a PAH model-compound.

Evaluation of anti-Pertussis antibody levels in Iranian infants and children: Is it time to include booster acellular Pertussis Vaccines in the immunization schedule?

Vaccine

January 2025

Pediatric Infectious Disease Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran; Department of Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics Center of Excellence, Children's Medical Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Introduction: The prevalence of anti-pertussis antibodies among infants and children in Iran has not been thoroughly investigated. Given that recommendations for booster vaccines are based on national disease epidemiology, we aimed to evaluate the seroprevalence of pertussis antibodies among infants and children in an Iranian referral hospital.

Materials And Methods: A total of 1012 infants and children were included in the study.

Objectives: Given the ongoing challenges regarding the specific roles of viral infections in cancer etiology, or as cancer co-morbidities, this study assessed potential associations between anti-viral, T-cell receptor (TCR) complementarity domain region-3 (CDR3s), and clinical outcomes for ovarian cancer.

Methods: TCR CDR3s were isolated from ovarian cancer specimens for a determination of which patients had anti-viral CDR3s and whether those patients had better or worse outcomes.

Results: Analyses revealed that patients with exact matches of anti-Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) CDR3 amino acid sequences exhibited better outcomes for both overall and disease-specific survival.

[Cutaneous ulceration in dermatomyositis : Case reports with positive anti-NXP-2/anti-TIF1-gamma antibody status].

Dermatologie (Heidelb)

January 2025

Klinik für Dermatologie, Allergologie und Venerologie, Universitätsklinikum Leipzig, Philipp-Rosenthal-Str. 23, 04103, Leipzig, Deutschland.

Painful ulcerations developed in a 33-year-old woman with anti-NXP-2-positive dermatomyositis in the facial and trunk areas and a 67-year-old woman with TIF1-gamma-positive dermatomyositis on the hands, while undergoing systemic therapy with azathioprine or low-dose methylprednisolone and cyclic administration of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG), respectively. In the laboratory workup, the anti-MDA‑5 antibody status remained negative and the creatine kinase (CK) normal in both patients, while histopathological examinations were nonspecific. Intensive topical class 4 corticosteroid therapy and continuation of the immunosuppressive or immunomodulating therapy led to healing of the ulcerative skin lesions.
