Serum water determination by means of microwave evaporation.

J Clin Chem Clin Biochem

Department of Chemical Pathology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Published: September 1988

A novel method is described for the determination of serum water using a microwave oven. The sources of experimental errors were analysed. Serum samples from two hundred patients were analysed for sodium, water and protein, and the data were used to calculate serum sodium molalities. A possible correlation was investigated between serum water content and protein concentration. The results were compared with those in the literature.

The rapid development and worldwide distribution of COVID-19 vaccines is a remarkable achievement of biomedical research and logistical implementation. However, these developments are associated with the risk of a surge of substandard and falsified (SF) vaccines, as illustrated by the 184 incidents with SF and diverted COVID-19 vaccines which have been reported during the pandemic in 48 countries, with a paucity of methods for their detection in supply chains. In this context, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation-time of flight (MALDI-ToF) mass spectrometry (MS) is globally available for fast and accurate analysis of bacteria in patient samples, offering a potentially accessible solution to identify SF vaccines.

Puerarin Attenuates Podocyte Damage in Mice With Diabetic Kidney Disease by Modulating the AMPK/Nrf2 Pathway.

January 2025

Nephrology Department, Jiangxi Provincial Key Research Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Key Research Laboratory of Chronic Renal Failure, Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanchang, Jiangxi 330006, China.

This study aimed to investigate the potential mechanisms of puerarin in alleviating diabetic nephropathy (DKD) in mice. The DKD model was induced by multiple low-dose injections of streptozotocin (STZ) and a high-sugar and high-fat diet in male C57BL/6J mice. After confirming the onset of DKD, mice were given irbesartan, distilled water, or different concentrations of puerarin (40 and 80 mg/kg/d) by gavage for 8 weeks.

The purpose of this trial was to assess the effects of methylphenidate on the kidney tissues and to investigate the protective effect of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) against possible methylphenidate nephrotoxicity in rats. The rats were separated into; healthy control (HG), methylphenidate (MPHG), ATP (ATPG), and ATP+ methylphenidate (AMPG). The ATPG and AMPG groups were administered ATP 4 mg/kg bw/d, and the HG and MPHG groups received distilled water intraperitoneally.

Heat-stress-induced oxidative and inflammatory responses were important factors contributing to chicken intestinal damage. The purpose of this study was based on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Physalis Calyx seu Fructus (Jin Deng Long, JDL) to investigate its efficacy and mechanism in relieving chicken heat stress damage. Primary chicken embryo duodenum cells and 90 30-day-old specific-pathogen-free chicken were randomly divided into control and JDL groups to establish heat stress models and .
