Room to breathe: An efficient method for the synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 (ZIF-7) in ethanol/water at room temperature is reported. The ZIF-7 undergoes a reverse-phase transition from large pore (lp)-phase to narrow pore (np)-phase under heat treatment and from np-phase back to lp-phase in ethanol solution.

Bimetallic synergy in non-precious metal Mn/Ba-SSZ-13 zeolite for improving NO storage capacity at low temperatures.

Pd-zeolite is considered one of the most promising passive NO adsorber (PNA) materials for NO purification in diesel vehicles during cold start. Nevertheless, the scarcity and high cost of the precious metal Pd restrict the industrialisation of Pd-zeolites as PNA. This work developed a bimetallic Mn and Ba co-modified SSZ-13 as non-precious metal PNA material.

Tailoring molecular diffusion in core-shell zeolite imidazolate framework composites realizes efficient kinetic separation of xylene isomers.

The separation of xylene isomers is a critical and energy-intensive process in the petrochemical industry, primarily due to their closely similar molecular structures and boiling points. In this work, we report the synthesis and application of a novel core-shell zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) composite, ZIF-65@ZIF-67, designed to significantly enhance the kinetic separation of xylene isomers through a synergistic "shell-gated diffusion and core-facilitated transport" strategy. The external ZIF-67 shell selectively restricts the diffusion of larger isomers (MX and OX), while the internal ZIF-65 core accelerates the diffusion of PX, thereby amplifying the diffusion differences among the isomers.

Low Molecular Weight Biobased Aromatics from Pyrolysis Liquids Using Zeolites: Yield Improvements by Using Pyrolysis Oil Fractions.

ACS Omega

January 2025

Green Chemical Reaction Engineering, Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen, University of Groningen, Nijenborgh 4, 9747 AG Groningen, The Netherlands.

Pyrolysis liquids from lignocellulosic biomass have the potential to be used as a feed for aromatics such as benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX) using catalytic upgrading with zeolites. We here report an experimental study on the conversion of various pyrolysis oil fractions to determine the most suitable one for BTX synthesis. For this purpose, the pyrolysis liquid was fractionated using several extraction/distillation steps to give four fractions with different chemical compositions.

The wide application of zeolite Y in petrochemical industry is well known as one of the milestones in zeolite chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis. However, the traditional organic-free synthesis typically produces (hydro)thermally unstable zeolite Y with Si/Al atomic ratio (SAR) less than 2.5.
