In this case report, we present a novel occurrence of acute hepatitis 2 weeks after local bupivacaine injection for wide awake, local anesthesia, no tourniquet carpal tunnel release. Laboratory and biopsy analysis confirmed cholestatic, drug-induced hepatitis that was successfully managed with conservative treatment. With a paucity of potential bupivacaine-induced hepatitis cases reported within the literature, the importance of broad differential diagnosis, meticulous medication reconciliation, and consideration of this rare complication should not be understated by the astute hand surgeon.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) and Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) are viral diseases that continue to challenge the US swine industry. Despite many known risk factors, unusual circumstances associated with their occurrence continues to be poorly explained. We investigated if extreme weather events (flood, heavy rain, high wind and tornadoes, measured at a county-level) are associated with the occurrence of both diseases up to ten weeks after the occurrence of the weather event using a case control study and logistic regression modeling to control for covariates.

Coronavirus disease 2019 can be indistinguishable from lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) caused by other viral and bacterial agents. This likely contributed to antimicrobial use (AU) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) during the pandemic. Our antimicrobial stewardship program targeted the selection and duration of therapy for LRTIs and led to a reduction in AU and AMR.

Background: In May 2023, Romagna, Italy, faced a devastating flood resulting in 16 fatalities, forced displacement of 26,000 citizens, and significant economic losses. Due to potential water contamination, implementing public health strategies became imperative for the Local Health Authority to mitigate the health consequences, analyze the flood's impact on the local population's health, and detect early anomalies requiring timely public health interventions.
Methods: Between June and July 2023, general practitioners who were part of the RespiVirNet surveillance network completed weekly structured forms.
