The charge-transfer (CT) tetrathiafulvalene--chloranil (TTF-CA) crystal, a representative functional organic electronic material, has been the subject of both basic and applied research. This material shows a neutral-ionic phase transition (NIPT) that induces drastic changes in its physical properties. Here, we use this crystal as a framework and demonstrate a method for modulating physical properties of TTF-CA. A number of multicomponent (ternary) CT crystals were obtained by crystallizing TTF-CA with a third molecular species. These complexes all contain molecular sheets formed with TTF-CA; however, the third molecules were differently inserted between these sheets as spacers to induce a variety of physical properties in the CT crystals. Some showed spacer-modified NIPT, while the transition to the ionic state was suppressed in one complex despite the presence of TTF-CA sheets, which indicates that spacer molecules can modulate the physical properties or functions of CT crystals.

Bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) stands as a highly promising layered semiconductor with outstanding optical, electrical, and thermal properties. For the practical application of the material toward the devices, growing BiOSe directly on the amorphous substrate at low temperatures (<400 °C) is essential; however, the negatively charged bottom Se layer originating from alternating stacks of Se and [BiO] has hindered this process. In this work, we report the method for synthesizing a BiOSe film on amorphous alumina (AlO) directly at 350 °C by using chemical solution deposition.

Background: Exposure to ionizing radiation is inevitable due to its extensive use in industrial and medical applications. The search for effective and safe natural therapeutic agents as alternatives to chemical drugs is crucial to mitigate their side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of citicoline as a standalone treatment or in combination with the anti-hepatotoxic drug silymarin in protecting against liver injury caused by γ-radiation in rats.

Brazilian soils have distinctive characteristics to European and North American soils which are typically used to investigate pesticide fate. This study aimed to compare soil-water partition coefficient (K), reversibility of adsorption and degradation half-life (DT) of 5 pesticides covering a wide range of physico-chemical properties in contrasting Brazilian soils (Argissolo, Gleissolo, Latossolo and Neossolo) and a temperate (UK) alfisol soil, and to study their relationship with soil OM, clay and expandable clay content, CEC and pH. In addition, we used a novel laboratory test to evaluate sorption reversibility, the 3-Phase Assay (3PA).

Extensive agricultural regions commonly face issues of poor groundwater management, non-standard agricultural production practices, and unordered discharge of domestic pollution, leading to a continuous decline in groundwater quality and a sharp increase in risks. A comprehensive understanding of groundwater conditions and pollution is a crucial step in effectively addressing the water quality crisis. This study employs the Comprehensive Water Quality Index, Irrigation parameter, and Pollution Index to comprehensively investigate the groundwater quality in a typical agricultural area in Shandong, China, and assesses the suitability of groundwater for irrigation and the risks to human health.
