Background: Bis(indolyl)methane derivatives are widely found in nature with a broad range of biological and pharmacological activities. The development of techniques for the synthesis and functionalization of bis(indolyl)methanes have attracted more and more attention in recent years.
Objective: To study the synthesis and biological activity of heterocyclic substituted bis(indolyl)methanes.
Materials And Methods: A series of heterocyclic substituted bis(indolyl)methanes (3a-3p) have been prepared by condensation reaction of indole and heterocyclic aldehydes catalyzed by boron trifluoride etherate with high yields. Preliminary in vitro anti-inflammatory in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW-264.7 macrophages and cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines (A549, Hela and SGC7901) by MTT assay were tested.
Results: The result indicated that heterocyclic substituted bis(indolyl)methanes showed good antiinflammatory and selective cytotoxic activity. Especially, compounds 3o, 3p and 3q displayed similar inhibitory effect on the generation of NO to positive control dexamethasone, and compound 3q displayed similar selective cytotoxic activity to 5-FU.
Conclusion: Heterocyclic substituted bis(indolyl)methanes may be used as potential anti-inflammatory and anticancer leads.

A facile copper-catalyzed, base-controlled cyclization reaction has been developed for the synthesis of 9-membered cycloalkyne and 6-membered heterocycle sultams under mild conditions. This protocol utilizes a copper-catalyzed intramolecular A (alkyne-aldehyde-amine) coupling reaction to efficiently synthesize 9-membered cycloalkyne sultams in yields up to 90%. Alternatively, by substituting NaHCO with DBU, the protocol achieves selective deprotection of the -propargyl group, thereby facilitating the formation of 6-membered heterocyclic sultams, also in high yields.

A cationic N-heterocyclic phosphenium (NHP) iron tetracarbonyl complex was synthesised from the free cation and its behaviour towards various anionic reactants studied. Reactions with fluoride, chloride, and hydride sources proceeded under attachment of the anion at phosphorus to yield Fe(CO)-complexes of neutral diazaphospholenes, while bromide and iodide reacted under addition of the anion at the metal and decarbonylation to yield NHP iron halides. Reactions with amides and organometallics were unselective.

Aryl quinolone derivatives can target the cytochrome bc complex of Plasmodium falciparum, exhibiting excellent in vitro and in vivo antimalarial activity. However, their clinical development has been hindered due to their poor aqueous solubility profiles. In this study, a series of bioisosteres containing saturated heterocycles fused to a 4-pyridone ring were designed to replace the inherently poorly soluble quinolone core in antimalarial quinolones with the aim to reduce π-π stacking interactions in the crystal packing solid state, and a synthetic route was developed to prepare these alternative core derivatives.

Novel tetrahydroisoquinoline and piperidine derivatives were selectively synthesized from substituted indenes or cyclopentenes. The process starts with an oxidative cleavage of the ring olefin bond, which gives reactive diformyl intermediates. By a ring-closing step using chiral (R) or (S) α-methylbenzylamine under a reductive amination protocol facilitated ring formation with ring expansion of the corresponding nitrogen-containing heterocycles.
