Biocompatible and biodegradable bacterial polyesters, poly(hydroxyalkanoates) (PHAs), were combined with linalool, a well-known monoterpene, extracted from spice plants to design novel antibacterial materials. Their chemical association by a photo-induced thiol-ene reaction provided materials having both high mechanical resistance and flexibility. The influence of the nature of the crosslinking agent and the weight ratio of linalool on the thermo-mechanical performances were carefully evaluated. The elongation at break increases from 7% for the native PHA to 40% for PHA-linalool co-networks using a tetrafunctional cross-linking agent. The materials highlighted tremendous anti-adherence properties against and by increasing linalool ratios. A significant decrease in antibacterial adhesion of 63% and 82% was observed for and , respectively.

Objective: Reading difficulties (RD) frequently co-occur with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and children with both RD + ADHD often demonstrate greater challenges in reading and executive functions (EF) than those with RD-only.
Methods: This study examined the effect of a 4-week EF-based reading intervention on behavioral and neurobiological correlates of EF among 8-12 y.o.

Objective: To characterize the subgingival microbiota in subjects with stage I/II periodontitis (moderate periodontitis, MP), stage III/IV periodontitis (severe periodontitis, SP), and periodontal health (PH) at the same probing depth (PD) (shallow ≤ 3 mm, moderate 4-6 mm, or deep ≥ 7 mm), and to investigate the changes associated with probing depth progression.
Materials And Methods: 100 subgingival plaque samples were collected from 50 subjects (16 MP, 17 SP and 17 PH), forming six groups: PHS (PH, shallow), MPS (MP, shallow), MPM (MP, moderate), SPS (SP, shallow), SPM (SP, moderate), and SPD (SP, deep). Samples were analyzed using high-throughput sequencing.

Inorganic/organic hybrid biomaterials have been developed to obtain synergy of the inorganic and organic co-networks for implant and 3D printed scaffold applications, providing combinations of bioactivity, toughness and controlled biodegradation. SiO-CaO/PTHF/PCL-diCOOH sol-gel hybrids previously showed potential for osteogenesis due to the addition of calcium to the silicate network of the hybrid, using calcium methoxyethoxide (CME) as the calcium source. Here, we investigate other calcium sources to improve mechanical properties and printability of the hybrid inks.

Vermiculite is a clay mineral with unique physical properties that plays a significant role in plant cultivation, soil remediation, and solid waste management. In this research, we first explored how vermiculite-to-microbe interactions evolved during sludge-waste mushroom residue co-composting. Vermiculite's addition had a substantial impact on the microbial α and β diversities, significantly changed the microbial community pattern, and strengthened the composting nutrient circulation through the formation of more specialist and generalist species.

Photocuring of chitosan has shown great promise in the extrusion-based 3D printing of scaffolds for advanced biomedical and tissue engineering applications. However, the poor mechanical stability of methacrylated chitosan photocuring ink restricts its applicability. The inclusion of co-networks by means of simultaneous polycomplex formation is an effective method by which to solve this drawback, but the formed hydrogel inks are not printable.
