Alkanes are known to promote the fluid lamellar (L)-to-inverted hexagonal (H) phase transition of different phospholipids. In this work, we studied the interaction of decane and tetradecane with self-assemblies formed of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-phosphoethanolamine (POPE), using sequential H and P solid-state NMR spectroscopy. This technique allowed calculating the partitioning constant of the alkanes between the L and H phases of POPE. Our results show that both alkanes are preferentially distributed in the H phase compared to the L phase. In the H phase, both alkanes display a very high conformational disorder, consistent with their location in the intercylinder voids. This preferential partitioning in the H phase is more pronounced for tetradecane than for decane. This finding is proposed to be associated with a less energetically favored insertion (limited solubility) of tetradecane in the lamellar phase. This proposition is supported by the observation that tetradecane experiences more conformational freedom than its shorter analog in POPE bilayers, suggesting that it is located, on average, closer to the middle of the bilayers. It is also established that the increase in size of the intercylinder voids, by the addition of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-phosphocholine (POPC) in the H cylinders, enhances the partitioning of decane in the H phase compared to the L phase. These findings propose handles to modulate the balance of the relative L/H phase stability.

Thermally driven transitions between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases are characterized by critical behavior with divergent susceptibilities, long-range correlations, and spin dynamics that can span kHz to GHz scales as the material approaches the critical temperature , but it has proven technically challenging to probe the relevant length and time scales with most conventional measurement techniques. In this study, we employ scanning nitrogen-vacancy center based magnetometry and relaxometry to reveal the critical behavior of a high- ferromagnetic oxide near its Curie temperature. Cluster analysis of the measured temperature-dependent nanoscale magnetic textures points to a 3D universality class with a correlation length that diverges near .

Introduction: In inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the number of eosinophils increases in the lamina propria of the intestinal tract, but their specific patho-mechanistic role remains unclear. Elevated blood eosinophil counts in active IBD suggest their potential as biomarkers for predicting response to biologic therapies. This study evaluates blood eosinophil count trends and their predictive value for clinical response and endoscopic improvement in patients with IBD receiving ustekinumab or adalimumab induction therapy.

Acute pancreatitis is a common gastrointestinal disease leading to hospitalisation. Recent advancements in its management have primarily focussed on the development of early phase medical interventions targeting inflammatory pathways, optimisation of supportive treatment (including fluid resuscitation, pain management and nutritional management), appropriate use of antibiotics, implementation of minimally invasive interventions for infected necrosis, and the necessity of follow-up for long-term complications. These advancements have significantly improved personalised management and overall outcomes of acute pancreatitis.

Targeted protein degradation (TPD) represents a promising alternative to conventional occupancy-driven protein inhibition. Despite the existence of more than 600 E3 ligases in the human proteome, so far only a few have been utilized for TPD of histone deacetylases (HDACs), which represent important epigenetic anticancer drug targets. In this study, we disclose the first-in-class Fem-1 homologue B (FEM1B)-recruiting HDAC degraders.
