Women-identifying and women+ gender faculty (hereto described as women+ faculty) face numerous barriers to career advancement in medicine and biomedical sciences. Despite accumulating evidence that career development programming for women+ is critical for professional advancement and well-being, accessibility of these programs is generally limited to small cohorts, only offered to specific disciplines, or otherwise entirely unavailable. Opportunities for additional, targeted career development activities are imperative in developing and retaining women+ faculty.

Rewiring the disordered connectome with circuit-based paired stimulation after stroke-a randomized, double-blind and controlled Phase II trial.

Brain Commun

December 2024

Engineering Research Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine Intelligent Rehabilitation, Ministry of Education, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai 201203, China.

The cortico-cortical paired associative stimulation, a combined stimulation based on two brain regions, may be an effective strategy for stroke rehabilitation. Our aim was to confirm that the cortico-cortical paired associative stimulation strengthens the connection between brain regions in the motor circuit and promotes improvements in motor function. This was a randomized double-blind, controlled Phase II trial.

Breaking Traditions: Evaluating Single Fraction Radiation in Indolent Lymphoma.

Hematol Oncol

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

As indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (iNHLs) are very radiosensitive, radiation treatment (RT) has been established as an essential curative and palliative modality for early and advanced stages of the disease. Several studies have explored the role of very low-dose RT for palliation in indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, demonstrating that this approach can lead to high rates of local control, and thereby, help improve the quality of life for these patients. While the most common schedule of very low-dose RT used in the palliative setting is 4Gy in 2 fractions, which was established in the landmark FoRT trial, this requires patients to be available for two RT sessions, increasing the financial and opportunity costs for the patient.

Patient and caregiver perceptions of electronic health records interoperability in the NHS and its impact on care quality: a focus group study.

BMC Med Inform Decis Mak

December 2024

North West London NIHR Patient Safety Research Collaboration, Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London, Room 1035/7, QEQM Wing, St Mary's Campus, London, W2 1NY, UK.

Background: The proliferation of electronic health records (EHR) in health systems of many high-income countries has ushered in profound changes to how clinical information is used, stored, and disseminated. For patients, being able to easily access and share their health information electronically through interoperable EHRs can often impact safety and their experience when seeking care across healthcare providers. While extensive research exists examining how EHRs affected workflow and technical challenges such as limited interoperability, much of it was done from the viewpoint of healthcare staff rather than from patients themselves.
