Background: The distinction of genera in Cranaidae (as in many other Gonyleptoidea) is traditionally made on the basis of a combination of armature of scutal areas, tarsomere counts, and some secondary sexual structures (which may vary among males). This historically led to the creation of non-natural groups of species as meaningless genera. Here some nominal genera of Cranaidae are addressed, and this paucity of diagnostic characters is alleviated with more detailed diagnoses and descriptions.
Results: The poorly known genus Roewer, 1913, hitherto monotypic, is revisited. The genera Roewer, 1913 (with three species), Roewer, 1932 (monotypic), and (monotypic) are here proposed as junior subjective synonyms of . Both type species of and are considered junior subjective synonyms of ; thus, Roewer, 1932 and Roewer, 1913 = Roewer, 1913. comb. nov. is proposed for Roewer, 1932. Goodnight & Goodnight, 1947, currently , is transferred to , and the new combination comb. nov. is herein proposed for it. is redescribed, and for the first time, the male genitalia is described and illustrated, and SEM pictures are offered. The new species sp. nov. is described from Quindío department, Colombia. A new diagnosis to is proposed. The relationships of are discussed. The remaining two species of are transferred to the family Manaosbiidae: (1) newly combined as (Roewer, 1963) and (2) newly combined as (Roewer, 1913). New diagnoses are given for both species.
Conclusions: A non-monotypic genus of Andean Cranaidae is defined, associated with a well-defined geographic region, and unloaded of extraneous species which belong to another family. Recognition of variation in heteromorphic males reveals past errors of assignment when only limited samples were available for study.

This study presents a comprehensive survey of the extant diversity of harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones), a pivotal taxon for biogeography and conservation studies, across Earth's geopolitical entities (here treated as "countries"). The rationale for recognizing more than 200 of these countries lato sensu worldwide is provided. The four most diverse of these countries are here further subdivided in states/provinces resulting in over 300 controlled vocabulary terms (geographic areas that contain harvestman records).

The systematics of gonyleptid harvestmen has recently been undergoing critical changes, especially regarding the Pachylinae and the K92 clade. In a recent cladistic analysis of the latter, the authors refrained from describing some of the detected new species to minimize the bulk of the alpha taxonomy in the manuscript. Herein, as a supplement and following the results of that analysis and the dismantlement of the genus Metagonyleptes Roewer, 1913, the formalization of two genera and five species belonging to clade K92 is proposed.

Two new species of the Chilean endemic genus Neogonyleptes Roewer, 1913 are described based on specimens obtained in the Nahuelbuta mountain range, Biobo and La Araucana Regions. The new taxa are morphologically allied to Neogonyleptes karschii (Srensen, 1902); however, both differ from all species of the genus by their dorsal scutum area III+IV, which is armed with a large, apically bifurcate apophysis. Neogonyleptes floresi sp.

Gonyleptes robustus Holmberg, 1876 (Opiliones, Gonyleptidae), hitherto under the synonymy of Acanthopachylus aculeatus (Kirby, 1819) is revalidated. It is recognized as the second species of genus Acanthopachylus Roewer, 1913, currently monotypic, giving the new combination Acanthopachylus robustus (Holmberg, 1876) comb. nov.
