A new alkynol, platycodynol (), identified as 2, 3, 9, 13, 14-pentahydroxy-4, 6-tetradecadiyne, along with six known compounds () were obtained from for the first time. Their structures were elucidated with infrared (IR), ultraviolet (UV), 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic analysis as well as by high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (HRESIMS). Platycodynol showed cytotoxicity against S180, A549 and SPC-A-1 cancer cells but no cytotoxicity against normal cells NCTC1469 and HL-7702 by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) method.

Diruthenacyclopentenone complexes of the general composition [RuCp(CO){μ-η:η-CH═C(C(OH)(R))C(═O)}] (-; Cp = η-CH) were synthesized in 94-96% yields from the reactions of [RuCp(CO){μ-η:η-C(Ph)═C(Ph)C(═O)}] () with 1-ethynylcyclopentanol, 17α-ethynylestradiol, and 17-ethynyltestosterone, respectively, in toluene at reflux. Protonation of - by HBF afforded the corresponding allenyl derivatives [RuCp(CO){μ-η:η-CH═C═R}]BF (-) in 85-93% yields. All products were thoroughly characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, and IR, UV-vis, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

A convenient method for the synthesis of fluorine-containing heterocyclic compounds was developed by a copper-catalyzed free radical addition reaction of alkynol and ethyl bromodifluoroacetate. This strategy involves copper-catalyzed free radical addition and molecular lactone exchange of ethynyl alcohol and ethyl bromodifluoroacetate. The method is characterized by easy availability of raw materials, good stereochemical selectivity, and simple operation.

Yet, electrophilic halogenations of the same alkynols and their alkoxy, ester and halo derivatives are inconspicuous. This review on the halogenation reactions of propargyl alcohols and derivatives intends to give a perspective from its humble direct halogenation beginning to the present involving metal catalysis.

Cultivated ginseng (CG), transplanted ginseng (TG) and mountain cultivated ginseng (MCG) classified by the habitat type all belong to and were reported to have similar types of secondary metabolites. Nonetheless, owing to the distinctly diverse habitats in which these ginseng types grow, their pharmacological effects differ. In the present study, an emerging analytical approach involving headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) was established to effectively distinguish among CG, TG and MCG.

This work is addressing the selective hydrogenation of alkynols over hybrid catalysts containing Pd-nanoparticles, within newly synthesized hyper-cross-linked polystyrenes (HPS). Alkynols containing C, C, and C with a terminal triple bond, which are structural analogues or direct semi-products of fragrant substances and fat-soluble vitamins, have been studied. Selective hydrogenation was carried out in a batch mode (ambient hydrogen pressure, at 90 °C, in toluene solvent), using hybrid Pd catalysts with low metal content (less than 0.
