Application of factorial experimental design for optimization and development of color lipstick containing antioxidant-rich Sacha inchi oil.

Pak J Pharm Sci

July 2021

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand/Innovation Center for Holistic Health, Nutraceuticals and Cosmeceuticals, Faculty of Pharmacy, Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This study aimed to optimize and develop the color lipstick formulation containing antioxidant-rich Thai Sacha inchi oil using full factorial experimental design. Antioxidant capacity of Sacha inchi oil was elucidated using DPPH and linoleic acid peroxidation assays. The y-tocopherol content of the oil was also determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.

Evaluation of alkenones, a renewably sourced, plant-derived wax as a structuring agent for lipsticks.

Int J Cosmet Sci

April 2020

Department of Pharmacy Practice, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Toledo, Toledo, OH, USA.

Objective: Waxes are used as structuring agents in lipsticks. There are a variety of waxes combined in a single lipstick to provide good stability, pleasant texture and good pay-off. Due to a significant growth for natural, green and sustainable products, there is a constant search for alternatives to animal-derived and petroleum-derived ingredients.

The aim of the study was to analyse the microbiological and biochemical activity of a reclaimed landfill produced during extraction and processing ozokerite and sown with Trifolium hybridum and Dactylis glomerata. The analyses were carried out in the third year after application of two doses of sewage sludge, spent mushroom substrate, sawdust, and manure to the landfill soil. The following parameters were determined: the total number of oligotrophic bacteria and filamentous fungi, the number of cellulolytic and lipolytic bacteria and fungi, respiratory activity, the activity of dehydrogenases, β-glucosidase, and lipase, and the activity of fluorescein diacetate hydrolysis.

The purpose of this study was to develop a pharmaceutical formulation containing fatty acid extract rich in free omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid for topical use. Although the health benefits of cod liver oil and other fish oils taken orally as a dietary supplement have been acknowledged and exploited, it is clear that their use can be extended further to cover their antibacterial properties. In vitro evaluation showed that 20% (v/v) fatty acid extract exhibits good activity against strains of the Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptoccoccus pyogenes and Streptoccoccus pneumonia.
