Ternary transition metal oxides (TTMOs) have attracted considerable attention for rechargeable batteries because of their fascinating properties. However, the unsatisfactory electrochemical performance originating from the poor intrinsic electronic conductivity and inferior structural stability impedes their practical applications. Here, the novel hierarchical porous NiO/β-NiMoO heterostructure is fabricated, and exhibits high reversible capacity, superior rate capability, and excellent cycling stability in Li-ion batteries (LIBs), which is much better than the corresponding single-phase NiMoO and NiO materials. The significantly enhanced electrochemical properties can be attributed to its superior structural characteristics, including the large surface area, abundant pores, fast charge transfer, and catalytic effect of the intermediate product of metallic nickel. The NiO/β-NiMoO heterostructure delivers a high capacity of 1314 mA h g at 0.2 A g after 100 cycles. Furthermore, even after 400 cycles at 1 A g , the reversible capacity remains at around 500 mA h g . These results indicate that the NiO/β-NiMoO heterostructure shows great potential as an anode material for high-performance LIBs.

Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) is an effective method for diagnosing potential faults in oil-immersed power transformers. Metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensors exhibit excellent performance. However, high operating temperatures can accelerate device aging, thereby reducing the reliability of online monitoring.

Low-energy light ion beams are an essential resource in lithography for nanopatterning magnetic materials and interfaces due to their ability to modify the structure and properties of metamaterials. Here we create ferromagnetic/non-ferromagnetic heterostructures with a controlled layer thickness and nanometer-scale precision. For this, hydrogen ion (H) irradiation is used to reduce the antiferromagnetic nickel oxide (NiO) layer into ferromagnetic Ni with lower fluence than in the case of helium ion (He) irradiation.

As a novel carbon-based material with two-dimensional (2D) characteristics, graphdiyne (GDY) shows great potential in constructing active catalytic sites due to its distinctive atomic configuration and sp/sp conjugated hybrid two-dimensional networks. In this study, the layered GDY was synthesized using the ball milling method, and ZnCdS/Graphdiyne/NiO (ZnCdS/GDY/NiO) composite was synthesized by in-situ composite and physical mixing method. The prepared ZnCdS/GDY/NiO has good photostability outstanding performance in photocatalytic hydrogen production.

Bacterial infection has always been a serious public health problem worldwide. Real-time microbial monitoring in the trauma resuscitation unit is crucial for infection control and plays an essential role in all aspects of wound treatment clinical practice, such as identification and evaluation of wound infection, diagnosis of wound infection, and topical antimicrobial treatment. Herein, gold-loaded nickel oxide nanosheets (Au-NiO NSs) prepared by hydrothermal and laser-assisted synthesis methods are used as fluorescent nanoprobes to rapidly detect and target bacteria at an early stage, and then achieve combined PTT and PDT to inactivate bacteria under sunlight.

Self-supported Ni/NiO heterostructures with controllable ratios used in industrial alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) systems lead to an ultralow voltage of 1.79 V at 400 mA cm for 2 weeks, ascribed to the synergic combination of abundant active sites, rapid electron/mass transfer and optimal HER kinetics.
