Invited for this month's cover are the collaborating groups of Prof. Luca Beverina from the University of Molani-Bicocca, Italy and Prof. Michael Sommer from Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. The front cover shows the thermally induced transformation of a soluble and electron-rich naphthalene tetraester-bithiophene copolymer into the corresponding insoluble and electron-poor naphthalenetetraanhydride derivative. The combination of monochromatic squares, inspired by the work of Josef Albers, shows the color change involved in the transformation. Read the full text of the article at 10.1002/cplu.201900210.

Developing orally administered pediatric formulations presents significant challenges due to the unique characteristics of pediatric patients. Terbinafine hydrochloride (TER), a powerful antifungal agent, is effective against various fungal infections, including Tinea capitis, which is common in children. However, its low aqueous solubility necessitates innovative pharmaceutical strategies to enhance its effectiveness.

Petroleum-derived contamination is a growing hazard for the Arctic Ocean and northern marine transportation corridors. In northern settings where the accessibility to oil spills can be limited, natural attenuation is the most promising remediation process. The goal of the presented research is to evaluate the impact of biodegradation on crude oil inside sea ice.

Thanks to recent developments in spectrophotometric instruments, the spectra, quantum yields (Φ), and lifetimes () of photoluminescence from organic and inorganic compounds can be readily determined not only in solution but also in the solid state. It is known that naphthalene emits fluorescence in solution, but not in the solid state. In a previous paper, we reported that solid-state emission can be seen from biaryl compounds comprised of chromophores that show no emission in the solid state.

The development of well-defined three-dimensional supramolecular polymers presents significant challenges, particularly in achieving crystalline state structures. This study addresses this challenge by presenting the construction of a crystalline three-dimensional supramolecular polymer through the self-assembly of clamparene () and a naphthalene diimide derivative () in the solid state. The hierarchical self-assembly progresses from one-dimensional linear supramolecular polymers to two-dimensional supramolecular polymers and ultimately to a crystalline three-dimensional supramolecular polymer.
