Background: Increasingly, patients are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) programs such as ChatGPT to answer medical questions either before or after consulting a physician. Although ChatGPT's popularity implies its potential in improving patient education, concerns exist regarding the validity of the chatbot's responses. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the quality and accuracy of ChatGPT's answers to commonly asked patient questions surrounding total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA).

Adding synthetic nucleotides to DNA increases the linear information density of DNA molecules. Here we report that it also can increase the diversity of their three-dimensional folds. Specifically, an additional nucleotide (dZ, with a 5-nitro-6-aminopyridone nucleobase), placed at twelve sites in a 23-nucleotides-long DNA strand, creates a fairly stable unimolecular structure (that is, the folded Z-motif, or fZ-motif) that melts at 66.

There are two generic approaches to curing any medical condition. The first one treats every patient for all the known possible causes that contribute to pathogenesis; the second one individualizes potentially curative therapy by only identifying in each separate patient the components of pathogenesis that are actually operative and treating those. This article adopts the second approach for formulating a cure for Alzheimer's dementia (AD).

Anti-counterfeiting (ACF) technology plays a crucial role in distinguishing genuine products from counterfeits, as well as in identity verification. Moreover, it serves as a protective measure for safeguarding the rights of individuals, companies, and governments. In this study, a high-level ACF technology was developed using a color-conversion system based on the photothermal effect of near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths.

Generalized mutual information (GMI) is used to compute achievable rates for fading channels with various types of channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) and receiver (CSIR). The GMI is based on variations of auxiliary channel models with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and circularly-symmetric complex Gaussian inputs. One variation uses reverse channel models with minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimates that give the largest rates but are challenging to optimize.
