At-a-glance - Living arrangements and health status of seniors in the 2018 Canadian Community Health Survey.

Health Promot Chronic Dis Prev Can

Public Health Agency of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Published: January 2020

Currently, 1 in 3 Canadian seniors meet the criteria for successful aging, which include low probability of disease and disability, high cognitive and physical ability and active engagement in life. The sociodemographic characteristic of living alone can identify high-risk seniors, due to its association with lower social support and interactions, thus increasing susceptibility to negative health outcomes in older age. However, limited data exists on the living arrangements of Canadian seniors. In this analysis, we present sociodemographic characteristics and measures of health and social well-being of seniors by living arrangement. This information should be used to identify and support vulnerable seniors and increase the prevalence of healthy aging among Canadians.

Background: Developing interventions along with the population of interest using systems thinking is a promising method to address the underlying system dynamics of overweight. The purpose of this study is twofold: to gain insight into the perspectives of adolescents regarding: (1) the system dynamics of energy balance-related behaviours (EBRBs) (physical activity, screen use, sleep behaviour and dietary behaviour); and (2) underlying mechanisms and overarching drivers of unhealthy EBRBs.

Methods: We conducted Participatory Action Research (PAR) to map the system dynamics of EBRBs together with adolescents aged 10-14 years old living in a lower socioeconomic, ethnically diverse neighbourhood in Amsterdam East, the Netherlands.

Evidence examining disparities in post-acute care (PAC) utilization among various racial and ethnic groups after stroke and the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH) in these decisions is lacking. Thus, we searched the literature from January 2000 to November 2023 regarding PAC among individuals after stroke through: 1) Pubmed, 2) Scopus, 3) Web of Science, 4) Embase, and 5) CINAHL. We found 14 studies.

This study intends to examine how women's empowerment directly or indirectly impacts their children's well-being. Since prior research primarily focussed on the effects of maternal empowerment on specific domains of child well-being, such as healthcare or education, this study seeks to explore a more comprehensive understanding of child well-being, where child well-being is quantified using four domains, viz., physical well-being, psycho-social well-being, educational well-being and awareness of safety.
