Background/objectives: Thyroid cancer (TC), especially primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), is an aggressive malignant tumor which usually resists radiotherapy (RT). We wanted to understand the mechanism of incomplete response of RT in TC cells.

Methods: SCC cell line SW579 cells were exposed to X-rays. Apoptosis and autophagy were measured by FACS; 3MA, inhibitor of autophagy, and Beclin-1 siRNA were used to investigate the effect of autophagy on radiation-induced TC cell apoptosis.

Results: RT could induce TC cell apoptosis through death receptor as well as mitochondrial pathway. Radiotherapy also induces autophagy and increases expression of autophagy-associated proteins Beclin-1 and LC3. Moreover, inhibition of autophagy by 3MA and Beclin-1 siRNA enhanced radiation-induced apoptosis, through up-regulation of the expression of p53.

Conclusion: RT-induced autophagy resists apoptosis by the p53 pathway and an incomplete response to RT may be associated with autophagy in TC patients.

Background: Accumulating evidence highlights impairment of autophagy as a key pathological feature of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Autophagy is a highly dynamic, lysosome-based degradation process that promotes the clearance of degenerative factors to maintain cellular functions, preserve metabolic integrity, and ensure survival. Impaired autophagic function leads to the abnormal accumulation of autophagic vesicles (i.

Objective: Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) are key players in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by resisting apoptosis via increased autophagy. Elevated synovial aquaporin 1 (AQP1) affects RA FLS behaviors, but its relationship with FLS autophagy is unclear. We aim to clarify that silencing AQP1 inhibits autophagy to exert its anti-RA effects.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major metabolic disorder with no established pharmacotherapy. Quercetin, a polyphenolic flavonoid, demonstrates potential hepatoprotective effects but has limited bioavailability. This study evaluates the impact of quercetin on NAFLD and assesses the roles of autophagy-related proteins in disease progression.

This study examined the response to cisplatin in BxPC-3, Mia-Paca-2, PANC-1, and YAPC pancreatic cancer lines with different genotypic and phenotypic characteristics, and the mechanisms associated with their resistance. BxPC-3 and MIA-PaCa-2 cell lines were the most sensitive to cisplatin, while YAPC and PANC-1 were more resistant. Consistently, in cisplatin-treated BxPC-3 cells, the cleavage patterns of pro-caspase-9, -7, -3, and PARP-1 demonstrated that they were more sensitive than YAPC cells.

Objectives: To deeply explore the mechanism of pachymic acid (PA) intervention in myocardial ischemia, providing new ideas and methods for the treatment of myocardial ischemia.

Methods: Predict the targets of PA for improving myocardial ischemia, and conduct functional enrichment analysis using databases, such as Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, and Reactome. To verify these findings, PPI network topology analysis and molecular docking were used to screen key targets and main mechanisms of action and further validated through in vitro experiments on the H9C2 cell line.
