Smart/intelligent contrast agent candidates for MRI based on Mn(II) ion are rare, as it usually forms labile complexes with polyaminocarboxylate-type ligands. Here, we report the first example of a Mn(II) complex that can be activated by changing the pH of its local environment. The PC2A-EA ligand with an ethylamine pendant arm was found to form a thermodynamically stable (log = 19.01, pMn = 9.27) and kinetically inert complex with Mn(II) with respect to -chelation with a metal ion such as Cu(II). The [MnH(PCA2-EA)] complex displays a relatively slow water exchange rate ((4.0 ± 0.2) × 10 s), but the pH-dependent coordination of the ethylamine moiety occurs in the pH range of 6-8 (log = 6.88), enabling the complex to exhibit pH-sensitive relaxivity in the biologically relevant pH range.

Purpose: The capnodynamic method, End Expiratory Lung Volume CO (EELV-CO), utilizes exhaled carbon dioxide analysis to estimate End-Expiratory Lung Volume (EELV) and has been validated in both normal lungs and lung injury models. Its performance under systemic hypoxia and variations in CO elimination is not examined. Sub--benziporphyrins were synthesized by Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling of ,'-diboryl--benzitripyrrane with 9,10-bis(1,1-dibromomethylenyl)anthracene. Reaction of sub--benziporphyrin with PhBCl and triethylamine gave its B-phenyl complex as a tetracoordinate nonaromatic B complex. In contrast, the reaction with BBr and triethylamine furnished a neutral B porphyrinoid with a planar and triangular coordination as the first example, in which the -phenylene unit was partially reduced, allowing for the global 14π-aromatic circuit.
