A sequence of transition metal complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) incorporating a novel pyrimidinyl based Schiff base ligand, 2-(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-ylamino)naphthalene-1,4-dione (HL) and 2,2'-bipyridine has been synthesized and characterized using elemental, magnetic, conductance, infrared (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (H- and C-NMR), electronic (UV-Vis), electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), thermographic analysis (TGA), and molecular docking studies. The acquired results were consistent with the adoption of the chemical formula, [M(X)(L)(Y)]·HO (where M = Mn, Co, Ni, and Cu; L = Schiff base; X = 2,2'-bipy; Y = OAc; and = 0,1) for the metallic complexes. HL ligand acts as a bidentate chelator and coordinates to metallic ion centre through carbonyl oxygen atom and deprotonated imide nitrogen. Similarly, 2,2'-bipy acts as a non-ionic bidentate chelator coordinating to metallic ion center via two nitrogen atoms. The mixed ligand complexes were appraised against pathogenic strains: , and . The antimicrobial studies gave moderate-good activity. Molecular docking studies on these compounds were done to indicate binding interactions between the compounds and adopted drug targets. Additionally, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity of the compounds were determined at different concentrations. The antioxidant study showed good radical scavenging abilities.

Herin, the successful synthesis of a bis Schiff base (L) has been achieved using 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and 1,3-diaminoguanidine as raw materials, which was further characterized by infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectrum. Moreover, spectroscopic experiments demonstrated that the probe L showed good selectivity and visual detectability for Al. Its detection limit (DL) is 2.

The preparation of 3D-printed self-healing hydrogels composed of carboxymethyl chitosan and oxidized dextran via stereolithography for biomedical applications.

This study presents a new approach for fabricating 3D-printed self-healing hydrogels via light-assisted 3D printing, utilizing Schiff-base and covalent bonding formations resulting from the reaction between amine and aldehyde functional groups alongside the photopolymerization of methacrylate groups. Two distinct polymers, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCs) and dextran, were first modified to yield methacrylate-modified carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCs-MA) and oxidized dextran (OD). The structural modifications of these polymers were confirmed using spectroscopic techniques, including H NMR and FTIR analyses.

Electronic address:

Diabetes is associated with excessive inflammation, which negatively impacts the fracture healing process and delays bone repair. Previously, growing evidence indicated that activation of the nod-like receptor (NLR) family, such as nod-like receptor thermal protein domain-associated protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome induces a vicious cycle of chronic low-grade inflammatory responses in diabetic fracture. Here, we describe the synthesis of a bone adhesive hydrogel that can be locally injected into the fracture site and releases a natural inhibitor of NLRP3 (rutin) in response to pathological cue reactive oxygen species activity (ROS).

Nose-to-brain delivery of lithium via a sprayable in situ-forming hydrogel composed of chelating starch nanoparticles.

Department of Chemical Engineering, McMaster University, 1280 Main Street, West Hamilton, ON L8S 4L8, Canada. Electronic address:

While bipolar disorder patients can benefit from lithium therapy, high levels of lithium in the serum can induce undesirable systemic side effects. Intranasal (IN) lithium delivery offers a potential solution to this challenge given its potential to facilitate improved lithium transport to brain when delivered to the olfactory mucosa. Herein, a sprayable, in situ forming nanoparticle network hydrogel (NNH) based on Schiff base interactions between chelator-functionalized oxidized starch nanoparticles (SNPs) and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCh) is reported that can be deployed within the nasal cavity to release ultra-small penetrative SNPs over time.

Enhanced Ammonia Capture for Adsorption Heat Pumps Using a Salt-Embedded COF Aerogel Composite.

School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Gyeongsang National University, Jinju 52828, Republic of Korea.

Adsorption heat pumps (AHPs) have garnered significant attention due to their efficient use of low-grade thermal energy, eco-friendly nature, and cost-effectiveness. However, a significant challenge lies in developing adsorbent materials that can achieve a high uptake capacity, rapid adsorption rates, and efficient reversible release of refrigerants, such as ammonia (NH). Herein, we developed and synthesized a novel salt-embedded covalent organic framework (COF) composite material designed for enhanced NH capture.
