Cutaneous metastases from clear cell renal carcinoma (ccRC) are uncommon and often indicate a poor prognosis. These metastases typically occur on the scalp, face, and trunk, and they can be difficult to diagnose due to their resemblance to benign dermatological tumors. We report the case of a 56-year-old patient with a history of ccRC (TNM stage 4) who was referred to our dermatology department with two rapidly enlarging, painful lesions on the left jawline and scalp, which had developed one month and one week earlier, respectively.

Dermoscopy of mycosis fungoides: could it be a confirmatory aid to the clinical diagnosis?

Arch Dermatol Res

November 2024

Professor of dermatology and venereology, Faculty of Medicine, Tanta university, Tanta, Egypt.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma that is difficult to be differentiated from other dermatological diseases. Dermoscopy is an easy and non-invasive office procedure that is widely used nowadays in the diagnosis of a wide variety of skin diseases. This prospective study aimed to describe and to differentiate the dermoscopic pattern of different stages and to compare the dermoscopic features observed in different clinical types of mycosis fungoides.

Noninvasive, rapid, and robust diagnostic techniques for clinical screening of tumors located in arbitrary areas of the human body are in demand. To address this challenge, we analyzed the feasibility of photoplethysmography-based angiography for assessing vascular structures within malignant and benign tumors. The proposed hardware and software were approved in a clinical study involving 30 patients with tumors located in the legs, torso, arms, and head.

Line-Field Optical Coherence Tomography: Usefulness in the Non-Invasive Differential Diagnosis of Congenital Alopecia of Infancy.

Introduction: Soon after birth, the clinical differential diagnosis between sebaceous of Jadassohn (NSJ), congenital triangular alopecia (CTA) and aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) may be challenging. A certain overlap of standard dermoscopic features can occur, especially in atypical cases, depending on scalp skin morphology and maturation age. The recently developed line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) can provide morphological skin details with cellular resolution trough a rapid non-invasive examination.

Article Synopsis
  • Tinea capitis (TC) is a prevalent fungal scalp infection mainly affecting children, and trichoscopy offers a noninvasive method for detailed hair examination.
  • This study analyzed 140 TC cases over a year, revealing a prevalence rate of 2.69 per thousand and identifying gray patch as the most common variant, with specific trichoscopic features like comma and corkscrew hairs.
  • The findings indicate that trichoscopy is effective for quick diagnosis, guiding treatment options, and monitoring treatment success in patients with TC.
