A potentiometric resolved photoelectrochemical (PEC) system based on CdS nanowires and SnNb2O6 nanosheets was developed. To prove the applicability of this system in PEC multi-biomarker analysis, a label free PEC immunosensor for two cardiac biomarkers, myoglobin and cardiac troponin I, was constructed.

The HoxEFUYH complex of Synechocystis PCC 6803 (S. 6803) consists of a HoxEFU ferredoxin:NAD(P)H oxidoreductase subcomplex and a HoxYH [NiFe]-hydrogenase subcomplex that catalyzes reversible H oxidation. Prior studies have suggested that the presence of HoxE is required for reactivity with ferredoxin; however, it is unknown how HoxE is functionally integrated into the electron transfer network of the HoxEFU:ferredoxin complex.

The early stages of mineralization continue to be in the focus of intensive research due to their inherent importance for natural and engineered environments. While numerous observations have been reported for single steps in the pathways of various crystallizing phases in previous studies, the complexity of the underlying processes and their elusive character have left central questions unanswered in most cases. In the present work, we provide a detailed view on the nucleation of calcium sulfate mineralization-an abundant mineral with broad use in construction industry-in aqueous systems at ambient conditions.

Under ideal conditions, nanotubes with a fixed negative tube-wall charge will reject anions and transport-only cations. Because many proposed nanofluidic devices are optimized in this ideally cation-permselective state, it is important to know the experimental conditions that produce ideal responses. A parameter called C, the highest salt concentration in a contacting solution that still produces ideal cation permselectivity, is of particular importance.

[FeFe]-hydrogenases catalyze the reversible oxidation of H from electrons and protons at an organometallic active site cofactor named the H-cluster. In addition to the H-cluster, most [FeFe]-hydrogenases possess accessory FeS cluster (F-cluster) relays that function in mediating electron transfer with catalysis. There is significant variation in the structural properties of F-cluster relays among the [FeFe]-hydrogenases; however, it is unknown how this variation relates to the electronic and thermodynamic properties, and thus the electron transfer properties, of enzymes.

Voltage-sensitive dyes (VSDs) are used to image electrical activity in cells and tissues with submillisecond time resolution. Most of these fast sensors are constructed from push-pull chromophores whose fluorescence spectra are modulated by the electric field across the cell membrane. It was found that the substitution of naphthalene with chromene produces a 60 to 80 nm red-shift in absorption and emission spectra while maintaining fluorescence quantum efficiency and voltage sensitivity.
