Hydroxyl radical (OH)- and sulfate radical ()-based advanced oxidation technologies (AOTs) have been proven an effective method to remove antibiotics in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This study aims to gain insights into kinetics and mechanisms of neutral sulfamethoxazole (SMX) degradation, a representative antibiotic, by OH and using an experimental and theoretical approach. First, the second-order rate constants (k) of SMX with OH and were determined to be (7.27 ± 0.43) × 10 and (2.98 ± 0.32) × 10 M s in UV/HO and UV/persulfate (UV/PS) systems, respectively. The following theoretical calculations at the M06-2X level of theory revealed that addition of radicals to the benzene ring is the most favorable first-step reaction for both OH and , but that exhibits higher energy barriers and selectivity than OH due to steric hindrance. We further analyzed subsequent reactions and, interestingly, our findings closely corroborated HOMO/LUMO distributions of SMX to the oxidation pathways. Finally, the estimation of energy consumption for UV alone, OH-, and -mediated oxidation processes was compared. These comparative results, for the first time, provide insights into the similarities and differences of degradation of SMX by OH/ at the molecular level and can help improve antibiotics removal using radical based AOTs in WWTPs.

Half-metallic magnetism, characterized by metallic behavior in one spin direction and semiconducting or insulating behavior in the opposite spin direction, is an intriguing and highly useful physical property for advanced spintronics because it allows for the complete realization of 100% spin-polarized current. Particularly, half-metallic antiferromagnetism is recognized as an excellent candidate for the development of highly efficient spintronic devices due to its zero net magnetic moment combined with 100% spin polarization, which results in lower energy losses and eliminates stray magnetic fields compared to half-metallic ferromagnets. However, the synthesis and characterization of half-metallic antiferromagnets have not been reported until now as the theoretically proposed materials require a delicate and challenging approach to fabricate such complex compounds.

Background: Clinical reception training plays a crucial role in developing undergraduates' clinical thinking and competence. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical reception training conducted by standard patients (SPs) and dental simulators among undergraduate students.
Materials And Methods: In the first week of the internship, sixty-five 5-year undergraduate students were divided into two groups: SP group, which received traditional theoretical training along with clinical reception training, and control group that only received traditional theoretical training.

Background: Nuclear medicine is an interdisciplinary field that integrates basic science with clinical medicine. The traditional classroom teaching model lacks interactive and efficient teaching methods and does not adequately address the learning needs and educational goals associated with standardized training for residents. The teaching model that combines Small Private Online Courses (SPOCs) with a flipped classroom approach is more aligned with the demands of real-life scenarios and workplace requirements, thereby assisting students in developing comprehensive literacy and practical problem-solving skills.

The emerging field of senolytics is centered on eliminating senescent cells to block their contribution to the progression of age-related diseases, including cancer, and to facilitate healthy aging. Enhancing the selectivity of senolytic treatments toward senescent cells stands to reduce the adverse effects associated with existing senolytic interventions. Taking advantage of lipofuscin accumulation in senescent cells, we describe here the development of a highly efficient senolytic platform consisting of a lipofuscin-binding domain scaffold, which can be conjugated with a senolytic drug via an ester bond.

The Layered Composite Roof Structure (LCRS) is a common bearing structure consisting of multiple layers of rock above a coal seam, and the energy stored in this structure plays an important role in the occurrence of rockburst. Few studies have been conducted on the theoretical modeling of energy storage in LCRS. This study theoretically developed a bending energy storage model for LCRS under three conditions, and the theoretical model was verified by simulation and experimental data.
