Altay D, Özcan A, Ünal E, Deniz K, Özkan KU, Patıroğlu T, Arslan D. A rare cause of vomiting in an adolescent: gastric Burkitt`s lymphoma. Turk J Pediatr 2019; 61: 431-435. Burkitt`s lymphoma, which is the most commonly diagnosed pediatric gastrointestinal tumor, usually affects the intestinal tract. However, the diagnosis of gastric Burkitt`s lymphoma in childhood is extremely rare. Here, we have reported the case of an adolescent male patient with vomiting and weight loss symptoms who was diagnosed with Burkitt`s lymphoma of the pyloric antrum. The patient responded very well to chemotherapy and he did not develop tumor lysis syndrome. Based on this case report, gastric Burkitt`s lymphoma might be included in the differential diagnoses of pediatric patients who experience vomiting that results in significant weight loss.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human ɣ-herpesvirus implicated in various malignancies, including Burkitt's lymphoma and gastric carcinomas. In most EBV-associated cancers, the viral genome is maintained as an extrachromosomal episome by the EBV nuclear antigen-1 (EBNA1). EBNA1 is considered to be a highly stable protein that interacts with the ubiquitin-specific protease 7 (USP7).

Background: In developing countries, the treatment outcomes of Burkitt lymphoma are poor due to the poorly equipped healthcare systems. In addition, there is limited comprehensive data within the African continent, including Kenya, about the outcomes of treatment for this cancer.
Aims: To assess treatment outcomes and variables associated with an increased risk of death from disease progression or treatment-related toxicities among Burkitt lymphoma pediatric patients at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), which are the only members of the gamma(γ) herpesviruses, are oncogenic viruses that significantly contribute to the development of various human cancers, such as Burkitt's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, Kaposi's sarcoma, and primary effusion lymphoma. Oncogenesis triggered by γ-herpesviruses involves complex interactions between viral genetics, host cellular mechanisms, and immune evasion strategies. At the genetic level, crucial viral oncogenes participate in the disruption of cell signaling, leading to uncontrolled proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis.

Childhood extranodal B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are often caused by Burkitt's lymphoma (BL). Treatment usually involves intensive polychemotherapy, and recent prospective trials show significantly improved outcomes. Surgery primarily involves conducting biopsies; ablative interventions are not recommended.

Preface And Importance: Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) is a relatively rare post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD), and there is currently limited research on the occurrence of BL following adult liver transplantation.
Case Introduction: We report a 45-year-old male who developed BL that rapidly progressed at seven years after left liver transplantation. The patient eventually abandoned treatment due to severe clinical complications.
