This review provides an in-depth analysis of the recent literature on the relationship between autophagy, mitophagy, and diabetic kidney disease, highlighting the current state of knowledge, existing research gaps, and potential areas for future investigations.

Background: The differential diagnosis between benign and malignant thyroid nodules continues to be a major challenge in clinical practice. The rising incidence of thyroid neoplasm and the low incidence of aggressive thyroid carcinoma, urges the exploration of strategies to improve the diagnostic accuracy in a pre-surgical phase, particularly for indeterminate nodules, and to prevent unnecessary surgeries. Only in 2022, the 5th WHO Classification of Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Tumors, and in 2023, the 3rd Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology and the European Thyroid Association included biomarkers in their guidelines.

Chromium-based functional coatings (CFCs) are widely recognized for their outstanding wear and corrosion resistance across diverse industrial sectors. However, despite advancements in deposition techniques and microstructural enhancements, many contemporary CFCs remain vulnerable to degradation in highly corrosive environments. For the first time, this research delivers a thorough characterization of the corrosion resistance of advanced CFCs, focusing on the performance of a 5 μm thin dense chromium (TDC) coating.

Background: Lower urinary tract disease is a common clinical condition in dogs, usually presenting with dysuria, pollakiuria and haematuria. Diabetes mellitus is a predisposing factor for urinary tract infection in both humans and dogs and does not necessarily present with clinical signs. In this case report, we describe for the first time a case of cystitis glandularis in a dog with diabetes mellitus, associated with Escherichia coli urinary tract infection.

Although pathologically similar to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lesions, they are benign. As such, it is important to develop methods to distinguish between FNH-like lesions and HCC.
