Ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation-induced photoaging leads to wrinkles, dryness, and skin roughness. UVB irradiation activates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and stimulates the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/activator protein-1 (AP-1) signaling pathway, which promotes expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and inflammatory cytokines. The current study aimed to assess the anti-photoaging activity of extract (ARE) on UVB-treated human dermal fibroblasts. ARE treatment reduced the overproduction of ROS and promoted mRNA expression of anti-oxidant enzymes. ARE treatment significantly inactivated the MAPK/AP-1 signaling pathway, which downregulated the expression of MMPs. Moreover, ARE promoted the production of type-I procollagen and upregulated mRNA expression of collagen genes. Additionally, ARE suppressed the expression of inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-8, by preventing expression of nuclear factor-kappa B. Collectively, our findings show that ARE could be a potential candidate for anti-photoaging treatment.

Surface water chemistry of the River Ganga at Varanasi was analyzed at 10 locations over 3 years (2019-2021) across pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon seasons. The study aimed to assess water parameters using principal component analysis (PCA), calculate the water quality index (WQI), determine processes governing water chemistry, evaluate irrigation suitability, and estimate non-carcinogenic health risks. The physical parameters measured included pH (8.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) play a critical role in chromatin remodelling and modulating the activity of various histone proteins. Aberrant HDAC functions has been related to the progression of breast cancer (BC), making HDAC inhibitors (HDACi) promising small-molecule therapeutics for its treatment. Hydroxamic acid (HA) is a significant pharmacophore due to its strong metal-chelating ability, HDAC inhibition properties, MMP inhibition abilities, and more.

Triggered by the urgent need to tackle the global crisis of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, in this work, we present a way to overcome chloramphenicol resistance by introducing modifications based on the glycosylation of its hydroxyl groups. The synthesized derivatives demonstrate complete resistance to the action of recombinant chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) from Escherichia coli and efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli ESBL, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Glycosylation gives chloramphenicol an additional advantage - the stable glycosidic form is less toxic to human dermal fibroblasts and has significantly better water solubility than non-glycosylated chloramphenicol.

Human skin is a physical and biochemical barrier that protects the internal body from the external environment. Throughout a person's life, the skin undergoes both intrinsic and extrinsic aging, leading to microscopic and macroscopic changes in its morphology. In addition, the repair processes slow with aging, making the older population more susceptible to skin diseases.

: This study is an attempt to reveal the potential of two types of interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels based on poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) and poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PDMAM). These IPNs were evaluated for their potential for dermal delivery of the hydrophobic drug dexamethasone (DEX). : The two types of IPNs were analyzed for their rheological behavior, swelling characteristics, and drug-loading capacity with DEX.
