We present the results from a high-resolution infrared study of jet-cooled singlet monofluorocarbene (HCF) in the CH stretch region near 2600 cm. Absorption signals are recorded using near quantum shot noise limited laser absorption methods. The fully resolved absorption spectra of the CH stretch (ν) fundamental band and a partial progression of transitions of the HCF bend plus CF stretch (ν + ν) combination band are observed and show clear evidence of a strong rovibrational coupling between the νK = 2 and ν + νK = 3 manifolds, including the observation of "dark state" transitions. A detailed perturbation analysis of a c-type Coriolis interaction is carried out for these two coupled vibrational states, providing experimental determination of precise rovibrational constants. A combined ground state combination difference fit of the transitions to the ν and ν + ν vibrational states in this study with previously reported LIF Ã(0,0,0) ← X̃(0,0,0) data has been done to increase the accuracy of the ground state rotational constants [M. Kakimoto et al., J. Mol. Spec. 88, 300-310 (1981)]. Moreover, we report, for the first time, hot band (ν + ν ← ν) transitions due to vibrationally excited HCF in the CF stretch mode, ν. The high-resolution results for all vibrational frequencies and rotational constants are in good agreement with and significantly extend the analysis of the rovibrational manifold of HCF. The present ground state and ν spectroscopic parameters now permit improved predictions for pure rotational and ν fundamental transitions to aid spectral searches for HCF in the laboratory and the interstellar medium.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of molecular and mechanical stresses in the development of keratoconus (KC), focusing on changes in gene expression in human corneal cells under specific conditions.
  • Researchers analyzed primary human corneal cells and KC-derived cells treated with TGFβ1 and subjected to cyclic mechanical stretch to replicate KC's physiological environment, using advanced RNA sequencing and bioinformatics tools.
  • The findings revealed significant differences in gene expression between healthy and KC cells, showcasing pathways linked to inflammation, matrix degradation, and structural organization that may contribute to keratoconus pathology.

Fatigue Testing of Wearable Sensing Technologies: Issues and Opportunities.

Human Factors and Athlete Engineering, Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems, Mississippi State University, 200 Research Boulevard, Starkville, MS 39759, USA.

Standards for the fatigue testing of wearable sensing technologies are lacking. The majority of published fatigue tests for wearable sensors are performed on proof-of-concept stretch sensors fabricated from a variety of materials. Due to their flexibility and stretchability, polymers are often used in the fabrication of wearable sensors.

A hydrogen-bonded CHF⋯HF complex was characterized by FTIR matrix isolation spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. Three possible structures of this complex were found at the coupled-cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple excitations [CCSD(T)/L3a_3] level of theory. The comparison between the experiment and theory reveals that the most stable structure with the binding energy of 6.

MicroRNAs that modulate transcription can regulate other microRNAs and are also up-regulated under pathological stress. MicroRNA-499 (miR-499), microRNA-208a (miR-208a) and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) play roles in cardiovascular diseases, such as direct reprogramming of cardiac fibroblast into cardiomyocyte and cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Whether miR208a, miR499 and Bcl-2 were critical regulators in cardiac fibroblast apoptosis under mechanical stretching conditions in human cardiac fibroblasts-adult atrial (HCF-aa) was investigated.

In this Letter, we investigate the energy-scaling rules of hollow-core fiber (HCF)-based nonlinear pulse propagation and compression merged with high-energy Yb-laser technology, in a regime where the effects such as plasma disturbance, optical damages, and setup size become important limiting parameters. As a demonstration, 70 mJ 230 fs pulses from a high-energy Yb laser amplifier were compressed down to 40 mJ 25 fs by using a 2.8-m-long stretched HCF with a core diameter of 1 mm, resulting in a record peak power of 1.
