In the comparative transcriptomic studies of wild type (WT) and rax1 null mutant strains, we obtained an average of 22,222,727 reads of 101 bp per sample and found that 183 genes showed greater than 2.0-fold differential expression, where 92 and 91 genes were up-and down-regulated in rax1 compared to WT, respectively. In accordance with the significantly reduced levels of gliM and casB transcripts in the absence of rax1, the rax1 mutant exhibited increased sensitivity to exogenous gliotoxin (GT) without affecting levels of GT production. Moreover, rax1 resulted in significantly restricted colony growth and reduced viability under endoplasmic reticulum stress condition. In summary, Rax1 positively affects expression of and metacaspase genes.

Delorazepam, a derivative of diazepam, is a psychotropic drug belonging to the benzodiazepine class. Used as a nervous-system inhibitor, it treats anxiety, insomnia, and epilepsy, but is also associated with misuse and abuse. Nowadays benzodiazepines are considered emerging pollutants: conventional wastewater treatment plants indeed are unable to eliminate these compounds.

Soil bacteria promote plant growth and protect against environmental stresses, but the mechanisms involved remain poorly characterized, particularly when there is no direct contact between the roots and bacteria. Here, we explored the effects of Pseudomonas oryzihabitans PGP01 on the root system architecture (RSA) in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings. Significant increases in lateral root (LR) density were observed when seedlings were grown in the presence of P.

Glutathione contributes to plant defence against parasitic cyst nematodes.

Mol Plant Pathol

Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES), Molecular Phytomedicine, University of Bonn, INRES, Bonn, Germany.

Article Synopsis
  • Cyst nematodes (CNs) are tiny harmful worms that attack the roots of many plants, causing serious damage.
  • Researchers studied how a special molecule called glutathione affects a plant called Arabidopsis when it's attacked by a specific CN type, Heterodera schachtii.
  • They found that plants with certain mutations in the glutathione-producing process were more likely to get infected, while others had better resistance due to greater glutathione levels, which helps the plant defend itself.

Glutathione Enhances Auxin Sensitivity in Arabidopsis Roots.

Biomolecules

Department of Food Science, Aarhus University, 8200 Aarhus N, Denmark.

Root development is regulated by the tripeptide glutathione (GSH), a strong non-enzymatic antioxidant found in plants but with a poorly understood function in roots. Here, Arabidopsis mutants deficient in GSH biosynthesis (, , and ) and plants treated with the GSH biosynthesis inhibitor buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) showed root growth inhibition, significant alterations in the root apical meristem (RAM) structure (length and cell division), and defects in lateral root formation. Investigation of the molecular mechanisms of GSH action showed that GSH deficiency modulated total ubiquitination of proteins and inhibited the auxin-related, ubiquitination-dependent degradation of Aux/IAA proteins and the transcriptional activation of early auxin-responsive genes.

AtMYB2 protein represses the formation of axillary meristems in response to environmental stresses so that plants can undergo a shorter vegetative development stage under environmental stresses. Shoot branching is an important event determined by endogenous factors during the development of plants. The formation of axillary meristem is also significantly repressed by environmental stresses and the underlying mechanism is largely unknown.
