Zika virus (ZIKV) infection has been linked to congenital defects in fetuses and infants, as exemplified by the microcephaly epidemic in Brazil. Given the overlapping presence of Dengue virus (DENV) in the majority of ZIKV epidemic regions, advanced diagnostic approaches need to be evaluated to establish the role of pre-existing DENV immunity in ZIKV infection. From 2015 to 2017, five pregnant women with suspected ZIKV infection were investigated in Pavia, Italy. Among the five pregnant women, three were DENV-ZIKV immunologically cross-reactive, and two were DENV-naïve. Advanced diagnosis included the following: (i) NS1 blockade-of-binding (BOB) ELISA assay for ZIKV specific antibodies and (ii) ELISpot assay for the quantification of effector memory T cells for DENV and ZIKV. These novel assays allowed to distinguish between related flavivirus infections. The three DENV-experienced mothers did not transmit ZIKV to the fetus, while the two DENV-naive mothers transmitted ZIKV to the fetus. Pre-existing immunity in DENV experienced mothers might play a role in cross-protection

Background: Reproductive life planning is key, now that people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) may live into their 60s. This study explores contraceptive use, pregnancy trends, and whether concomitant cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator therapy reduces contraceptive effectiveness.
Methods: Females with CF aged 18-45 years from 10 U.

Objective: Cardiac diseases that require surgical intervention present a unique challenge during pregnancy and may affect both maternal and neonatal outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant females undergoing cardiac surgery.
Methods: A comprehensive manual and electronic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Sciences databases for studies published up to 31 May 2024.

Objective: Maternal sepsis continues to be a maternal health problem associated with 75,000 deaths per year worldwide, representing a greater burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Although the Shock Index (SI) has been widely studied in postpartum hemorrhage and in non-obstetric populations, it has not yet been widely studied in sepsis. We aimed to identify the relationship between Shock Index and suspected sepsis in pregnant and postpartum patients to explore the use of Shock index in the context of maternal sepsis and its relationship with sepsis-related outcomes.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends antiretroviral therapy (ART) containing two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) as backbone. WHO recommends tenofovir disoproxil fumarate combined with lamivudine or emtricitabine as first line in pregnancy, and zidovudine, abacavir or tenofovir alafenamide, combined with lamivudine or emtricitabine, as alternatives.
Objectives: Evaluate risk of adverse perinatal outcomes in pregnant women living with HIV (WLHIV) receiving different NRTIs.

Background: Antenatal depression (AND), occurring during pregnancy, is associated with severe outcomes. However, there is a lack of objective and universally applicable prediction methods for AND in clinical practice. We leveraged sociodemographic and pregnancy-related data to develop and validate a machine learning-based AND prediction model.
