Introduction: The patients with ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) are significantly at increased risk of arrhythmia. Repolarization of myocardium has been evaluated by a series of electrical parameters including T wave peak to T wave end (Tp-Te) and Tp-Te/QT ratio. Which were compared with survival outcomes between two groups of STEMI patients treated with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) and recombinant Tissue Plasminogen Activator (r-TPA).

Methods: In this prospective study, 188 patients with STEMI were included in the study. 12‑Lead ECGs were obtained from all patients on time of admission and after 24 h after treatment. After dividing the patients into two groups based on their type of treatment (PPCI or r-TPA), The Tp-Te/QT and Tp-Te/QTc ratios were calculated using ECG records. The survival outcomes were compared between two groups.

Results: 95 patients (50.5%) underwent PPCI and 93 patients (49.5%) received r-TPA. Tp-Te/QT and Tp-Te/QTc ratios after administration of the treatments were significantly decreased in both groups (P-value = .001) with lower Tp-Te/QT and Tp-Te/QTc ratios in PPCI group (P-value = .001). 7 patients in PPCI group (7.3%) and 16 patients in r-TPA group (17.2%) were died during their hospitalization period (P-value = .04). The best combination of sensitivity and specificity of post treatment Tp-Te/QT ratio was at cutoff points of 29.4 with 82% sensitivity and 83% specificity.

Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that Tp-Te/QT and Tp-Te/QTc ratios decrease significantly after both PPCI and r-TPA therapies, but with PPCI these indexes decrease more than r-TPA, resulting a better survival outcome in patients with STEMI.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the Tpeak-Tend interval (Tp-Te) as a diagnostic tool for distinguishing between psychogenic pseudosyncope (PPS) and vasovagal syncope (VVS) in children, examining data from 31 children with PPS and 40 with VVS.
  • - Results demonstrate that the Tp-Te and its ratio to the QT interval are significantly lower in PPS compared to healthy controls, while VVS patients show higher Tp-Te values in certain ECG leads compared to controls.
  • - In orthostatic ECG tests, the PPS group exhibited higher Tp-Te measures relative to healthy controls, indicating potential differences in repolarization patterns that could help differentiate between PPS and VVS in pediatric

Introduction: Ischemia due to microvascular dysfunction may be responsible for the heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization in coronary slow flow. To our knowledge, there is no study in which QT interval, Tp-Te interval, index of cardiac-electrophysiological balance (iCEB), and frontal QRS-T angle were evaluated together in patients with CSF. In this study, we examined for the first time the relationship between all these myocardial repolarization parameters and CSF.

Background: Arrhythmias can be seen as a sign of cardiac autonomic neuropathy in type 1 diabetes mellitus. We aimed to evaluate pulmonary artery pressure, ventricular depolarization and repolarization variability in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Methods: We investigated 78 children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (mean age 11.

Does Iron Deficiency Affect the Heart in Children?

J Pediatr Hematol Oncol

April 2022

Pediatric Haemotology, Keciören Training and Research Hospital, Health Sciences University, Ankara, Turkey.

Introduction: It is well known that serum iron parameters are closely related to cardiovascular health. Iron deficiency may lead to significant cardiac problems, such as atrioventricular conduction abnormalities, and systolic and/or diastolic dysfunction. Studies related to the effect of iron deficiency on cardiac functions are limited in children.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to investigate the cardiac effects of COVID-19 in children, as existing literature is limited on this topic despite the widespread infection rate.
  • Seventy hospitalized children with COVID-19 were compared with seventy healthy children, utilizing lab tests, electrocardiography (ECG), and echocardiography (TTE).
  • The study found increased cardiac parameters in COVID-19 patients, including fragmentation in ECG and mild mitral insufficiency in some cases, suggesting that children might also experience significant cardiac effects from the virus, contrary to previous assumptions.
