The stereospecific Fe-catalyzed arylation of enol tosylates was reported. Various tri- or tetrasubstituted Z or E-enol tosylates of β-keto esters were arylated using common and Knochel-type Grignard reagents with complete stereofidelity. The precursors for Z/E-zimelidine, tamoxifen and other bioactive compounds were facilely prepared without precious and toxic transition metals.

Base-mediated synthesis of aryl enol ethers from α-aryl allylic alcohols and arylsulfonium salts.

A concise synthesis of aryl enol ethers from allylic alcohols and arylsulfonium salts by simply using an inorganic base as a mediator is described. The reaction enabled the facile conversion of various α-aryl allylic alcohols into the corresponding aryl enol ethers in good yields with excellent selectivity. The results demonstrated that both symmetric triarylsulfonium triflate and 10-methyl-5-aryl-5,10-dihydrophenothiazin-5-ium salts were effective arylation reagents for the base-initiated selective -arylation and isomerization of α-aryl allylic alcohols.

Photo-Catalyzed α-Arylation of Enol Acetate Using Recyclable Silica-Supported Heteroleptic and Homoleptic Copper(I) Photosensitizers.

Earth-abundant photosensitizers are highly sought after for light-mediated applications, such as photoredox catalysis, depollution and energy conversion schemes. Homoleptic and heteroleptic copper(I) complexes are promising candidates in this field, as copper is abundant and the corresponding complexes are easily obtained in smooth conditions. However, some heteroleptic copper(I) complexes suffer from low (photo)stability that leads to the gradual formation of the corresponding homoleptic complex.

Silyl enol ethers were examined as a masked source of saturated ketones to derive β-aryl enones and their derivatives by dehydrosilylation to generate enones and subsequent oxidative arylation with arylboronic acids as transmetallation coupling partners using relayed Pd(II) catalysis in one pot under base-free conditions. Oxygen was found to be an efficient and green oxidant to enable both dehydrosilylation of enol silanes and arylation. Additionally, arylation conditions can be custom-designed to take advantage of aryl halides as an alternative source of arylating agents.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Arylation of Cyclobutenone Ketals.

Complex cyclobutanes are important motifs in both bioactive molecules and natural products, yet their enantioselective preparation has not been widely explored. In this work, we describe rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective additions of aryl and vinyl boronic acids to cyclobutenone ketals. This transformation involves enantioselective carbometalation to give cyclobutyl-rhodium intermediates, followed by β-oxygen elimination to afford enantioenriched enol ethers.

Two complementary regiodivergent Pd-catalyzed assisted tandem [isomerization/Heck arylation] reactions are reported. They provide access to a broad array of acyclic trisubstituted vinyl ethers starting from readily available alkenyl ethers. In both cases, the isomerization is conducted with a [Pd-H] precatalyst supported by tris--butyl phosphine ligands.
