Celiac disease, wheat allergy and non-celiac wheat sensitivity constitute the three main categories of wheat-related disorders. Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS), a CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), is characterized by eosinophilic infiltration with type 2 inflammation and is highly associated with bronchial asthma. Intractable ECRS with poorly controlled asthma is recognized as a difficult-to-treat eosinophilic airway inflammation. Although eosinophils are activated and coincubation with airway epithelial cells prolongs their survival, the interaction mechanism between eosinophils and epithelial cells is unclear.

Background: Eosinophilic otitis media (EOM) is a recently recognised type 2 inflammatory disease, strongly associated with asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. Known as a difficult-to-treat condition, EOM is often refractory to traditional therapies for (chronic) otitis media. This review aims to assess the success rates of the different interventions for patients with EOM including newly available biological therapy.
