Age-related hearing loss in humans has been associated with cognitive decline, though the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We investigated the long-term effects of hearing loss on attention, impulse control, social interaction, and neural activity within medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) subregions. Hearing loss was induced in adult rats via intracochlear neomycin injection (n = 13), with non-operated rats as controls (n = 10).

Background: The delivery of drugs into the inner ear is a challenging field of study due to the complex cochlear anatomy and physiology. The creation of an intracochlear device that allows for short- and long-term intracochlear delivery of the drugs with a minimal invasive technology is needed to prevent or treat conditions that can potentially prevent the development of permanent hearing loss.
Aim: This study intends to test the efficacy of DXM-infused PLGA microneedles created in our laboratory in an animal model of acute ototoxic injury.

Acute onset of vertigo and hearing loss is rare in leukemic disorders. MRI can diagnose intracochlear hemorrhage as the underlying cause. The hearing can improve but if severe hearing loss preserves, cochlear implantation can be considered.

Hypothesis: Proteins enriched in the perilymph proteome of Meńier̀e disease (MD) patients may identify affected cell types. Utilizing single-cell transcriptome datasets from the mammalian cochlea, we hypothesize that these enriched perilymph proteins can be localized to specific cochlear cell types.
Background: The limited understanding of human inner ear pathologies and their associated biomolecular variations hinder efforts to develop disease-specific diagnostics and therapeutics.
