New cycloplatinated -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) compounds with chelate diphosphines (P^P) as ancillary ligands: [Pt(R-C^C*)(P^P)]PF (R = H, P^P = dppm (), dppe (), dppbz (); R = CN, P^P = dppm (), dppe (), dppbz ()) have been prepared from the corresponding starting material [{Pt(R-C^C*)(μ-Cl)}] (R = H, A, R = CN, B) and fully characterized. The new compound has been prepared by a stepwise protocol. The photophysical properties of - and - have been widely studied and supported by the time-dependent-density functional theory. These compounds show an efficient blue (dppe, dppbz) or cyan (dppm) emission in PMMA films (5 wt %), with photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) ranging from 30% to 87% under an argon atmosphere. This emission has been assigned mainly to transitions from ILCT [π(NHC) → π*(NHC)] excited states with some LL'CT [π(NHC) → π*(P^P)] character. The electroluminescence of these materials in proof-of-concept solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes containing and as dopants was investigated. The CIE coordinates for devices based on (0.22, 0.41) and (0.24, 0.44) fit within the sky blue region.

A family of cationic cycloplatinated(II) complexes [Pt(dfppy)(P^P)]Cl, dfppy = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, incorporating bisphosphine ligands, P^P = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (, dppm), 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane (, dppe) and 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (, dppbz), was prepared. The complexes were characterized by means of several analytical and spectroscopic methods. These complexes displayed acceptable stability in the biological environments which was confirmed by NMR, HR ESI-MS and UV-vis techniques.

Cleavage of the bromide bridges in [Pd2(μ-Br)2{κ2(Sn,As)-2-MeBrSnC6F4AsPh2}2] (1) by diphosphine ligands gave the mono- and dinuclear palladacycles [Pd(L)Br{κ2(Sn,As)-2-MeBrSnC6F4AsPh2}] [L = dppe (2) dppm (3), ortho-dppBz (4)] and [Pd2Br2(para-dppBz){κ2(Sn,As)-2-MeBrSnC6F4AsPh2}2] (5). The interactions of these complexes with DNA (CT-DNA) and proteins (human serum albumin) were studied by UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, respectively. The results confirmed the interaction of these palladium complexes with CT-DNA through groove binding, and their strong binding affinity to HSA.

The reaction of [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2 with potassium O-ethylxanthate and a set of nine representative Ph2P-X-PPh2 bidentate phosphines (dppm, dppe, dppp, dppb, dpppe, dppen, dppbz, dppf, and DPEphos) afforded monometallic [Ru(S2COEt)2(diphos)] chelates 1-9 in 62-96% yield. All the products were fully characterized by using various analytical techniques and their molecular structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. They featured a highly distorted octahedral geometry with a S-Ru-S bite angle close to 72° and P-Ru-P angles ranging between 73° and 103°.

Zerovalent nickel compounds which feature 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppbz) were obtained via the reactivity of dppbz towards Ni(PMe), which affords sequentially (dppbz)Ni(PMe) and Ni(dppbz). Furthermore, the carbonyl derivatives (dppbz)Ni(PMe)(CO) and (dppbz)Ni(CO) may be obtained via the reaction of CO with (dppbz)Ni(PMe). Other methods for the synthesis of these carbonyl compounds include (i) the formation of (dppbz)Ni(CO) by the reaction of Ni(PPh)(CO) with dppbz and (ii) the formation of (dppbz)Ni(PMe)(CO) by the reaction of (dppbz)Ni(CO) with PMe.
