We study, both theoretically and experimentally, tunable metasurfaces supporting sharp Fano-resonances inspired by optical bound states in the continuum. We explore the use of arsenic trisulfide (a photosensitive chalcogenide glass) having optical properties which can be finely tuned by light absorption at the post-fabrication stage. We select the resonant wavelength of the metasurface corresponding to the energy below the arsenic trisulfide bandgap, and experimentally control the resonance spectral position via exposure to the light of energies above the bandgap.

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) have been deemed a new generation of photosensitizers for light harvesting on account of their quantum confinement effect, peculiar atom-stacking mode, and enriched catalytic active sites. Nonetheless, to date, precise charge modulation over metal NCs has still been challenging considering their ultra-short carrier lifetime and poor stability. In this work, we conceptually demonstrate the integration of metal NCs with MXene in transition metal chalcogenide (TMC) photosystems a progressive, exquisite, and elegant interface design to trigger tunable, precise and high-efficiency charge motion over metal NCs, stimulating a directional carrier transport pathway.

Production of green hydrogen (H) is a sustainable process able to address the current energy crisis without contributing to long-term greenhouse gas emissions. Many Ag-based catalysts have shown promise for light-driven H generation, however, pure Ag-in its bulk or nanostructured forms-suffers from slow electron transfer kinetics and unfavorable Ag─H bond strength. It is demonstrated that the complexation of Ag with various chalcogenides can be used as a tool to optimize these parameters and reach improved photocatalytic performance.

Photosensitive materials are widely used for the direct fabrication of surface relief gratings (SRGs) without the selective etching of the material. It is known that the interferometric approach makes it possible to fabricate SRGs with submicron and even subwavelength periods. However, to change the period of the written SRGs, it is necessary to change the convergence angle, shift a sample, and readjust the interferometric setup.

The participation of the surfaces of colloidal semiconductor nanocrystal quantum dots (QDs) in QD-mediated photocatalytic reactions is an important factor that distinguishes QDs from other photosensitizers ( transition metal complexes or organic dyes). Here, we probe nucleophilic and radical reactivity of surface sulfides and selenides of metal chalcogenide (CdSe, CdS, ZnSe, and PbS) QDs using chemical reactions and NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, the high sensitivity of EPR spectroscopy is adapted to study these surface-centered reactions through the use of spin traps like 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline--oxide (DMPO) under photoexcitation and thermal conditions.
