Perifoveal exudative anomalous complex (PEVAC) is an uncommon entity that occurs in isolation or in association with retinal vascular disorders. The authors describe a case of a 47-year-old man presenting with a central scotoma in the left eye found to have an isolated PEVAC. Fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and intravenous fluorescein angiography were collected. OCT angiography of the lesion revealed suspended scattered particles in motion, a newly described finding in exudative macular retinopathies. The authors describe the first case of PEVAC with angiographic evidence of suspended scattered particles in motion. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2019;50:796-800.].

We use non-resonant Raman scattering to demonstrate a large enhancement of the effective refractive index experienced by Raman photons in a scattering medium comprising spatially-correlated photonic structures of core-shell TiO@Silica scatterers mixed with silica nanoparticles and suspended in ethanol. We show that the high refractive index extends outside the physical boundary of the medium, which is attributed to the evanescent contributions of electromagnetic modes that are strongly localized within the medium. Notably, the effective enhancement can be observed even at very low intensities of Raman emission.

The underwater imaging process is often hindered by high noise levels, blurring, and color distortion due to light scattering, absorption, and suspended particles in the water. To address the challenges of image enhancement in complex underwater environments, this paper proposes an underwater image color correction and detail enhancement model based on an improved Cycle-consistent Generative Adversarial Network (CycleGAN), named LPIPS-MAFA CycleGAN (LM-CycleGAN). The model integrates a Multi-scale Adaptive Fusion Attention (MAFA) mechanism into the generator architecture to enhance its ability to perceive image details.

The study aims to prepare and characterize a novel paclitaxel (PtX) preconcentrate formulation using polymer and lipid excipients that forms nanodispersion upon dilution. The goal was to understand the mechanism of nanodispersion formation and its properties. The water-insoluble PtX was dissolved in organic solvents containing ethanol, polyethylene glycol (PEG400), povidone (PVP), caprylic acid (CA), and sodium cholesterol sulfate (CS).

Triticale (× Triticosecale), was initially produced by crossing wheat (Triticum) with rye (Secale). Although still a minor crop in Canada, triticale grain is used both as human food (in bread, pastry products, and the brewing industry) and as livestock feed (Larter 2015). In September 2023 typical leaf rust samples were observed and collected in winter Triticale at Lacombe, Alberta.
