Background: Behavioural case loads may vary due to cultural differences, and so it is important to know how these differ with geography.
Methods: One hundred and eighty dog cases referred to a veterinary behaviourist in São Paulo (Brazil) during the period of 2008-2014 are described.
Results: Aggression against people was the most common behavioural complaint (22.2 per cent of the cases), followed by apparent fears and phobias (13.3 per cent). Forms of aggression against other dogs (12.2 per cent) and repetitive behaviours (11.1 per cent) were third and fourth most frequent, respectively. Female and male patients were equally reported (47.6 and 52.4 per cent, respectively). These results differ slightly from the findings of other international studies, in which aggression was the main behavioural complaint with fears and phobias less common.
Conclusion: Regional demographic reviews of the case loads of veterinary behaviour specialists help the profession recognise the problems of most concern to pet owners in a given area and thus local priorities, as well as opening up the potential to generate new hypotheses relating to the reasons for regional differences.

Indoprofen (INP) comprises two enantiomers, R- and S-, whose high pharmacological efficacy is realized only in the case of the separated enantiomers. A newly synthesized poly(acrylonitrile-co-divinylbenzene) (PANB)-based sorbent with selective affinity to the S-enantiomer of INP was applied to separate INP racemate. The synthesis was performed by suspension polymerization with low-crosslinked PANB microparticles and by reaction of the inserted nitriles with 1-amino-1H-pyrrole-2,5‑dione (Ma-NH).

A boy with bilateral congenital anomalies of the upper extremities with transverse absence of the left arm (agenesis) and absence of right thumb (disgenesis), fixed elbow in extension due to humeroradial synostosis thought that the humerus was intact. His wrist could move passively with 50° flexion, 0° extension, and 70° radial deviation. The study of the phase behavior of polyelectrolyte complex coacervates has attracted significant attention in recent years due to their potential use as membrane-less organelles, microreactors, and drug delivery platforms. In this work, we investigate the mechanism of protein loading in chain-length asymmetric complex coacervates composed of a polyelectrolyte and an oppositely charged multivalent ion. Unlike the symmetric case (polycation + polyanion), we show that protein loading is highly selective based on the protein's net charge: only proteins with charges opposite to the polyelectrolyte can be loaded.
