The authors report a case of micro-pulmonary emboli of malignant cells observed in a 58 year old lady who had been submitted to a mastectomy for cancer 18 months before, followed by chemotherapy for six months. The patient entered into the terminal phase of her disease with dyspnoea which became rapidly incapacitating leading to her death ten weeks later, in spite of heparin therapy and chemotherapy. The diagnosis was furnished by a transbronchial biopsy. However, the discovery of a mobile mass in the right ventricle raised the question as to the source of the micro-emboli.

Collagen type XI alpha 1 (COL11A1), a critical member of the collagen superfamily, is essential for tissue structure and integrity. This study aimed to validate previously identified variations in COL11A1 expression during breast cancer carcinogenesis and progression, as well as elucidate their clinical implications. COL11A1 mRNA expression levels were assessed using real-time reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) in 30 pairs of normal breast tissue and primary breast cancer, 30 pairs of primary breast cancer and lymph node metastases, 30 benign tumors, and 107 primary breast cancers.

Polycystic kidney and hepatic disease 1-like protein 1 (PKHD1L1) is predicted to encode a large type I transmembrane protein involved in hearing transmission and mediating cellular immunity under physiological conditions. However, its role in cancer progression, especially in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we observed significantly lower expression of PKHD1L1 in LUAD tissues than in normal lung tissues on the basis of the integration of public datasets from the TCGA and GEO cohorts.

Background: Our study aimed to explore the specific functions and potential mechanisms of miR-224-5p in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: We first analyzed the expression of miR-224-5p in NSCLC patients and cell lines through the GEO database and qRT-PCR analysis. Then, we used MTT assays, wound healing assays, Transwell assays, and western blotting to evaluate the effects of miR-224-5p on NSCLC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common histological subtype of lung cancer. JAM2, a member of the Junctional adhesion molecule (JAM) family, plays diverse roles in cell-cell contacts and tumor development. Although JAM2's expression and functions have been reported in various cancers, its clinical and biological significance in LUAD remains unclear.
