The European perch L. serves as a host of different endohelminths of Trematoda, Cestoda, Nematoda, and Acanthocephala. Its natural range covers freshwater basins throughout much of Europe, including the Danube. Since information about endohelminths of European perch from this international river basin has been rather sporadic, the parasitological examinations of 700 perch from the central region of the Danube river basin in Slovakia were performed in October 2017 and April 2018. The larval stages of (Cestoda) were found in cysts located in the perch liver and adults of (Cestoda) were isolated from the intestine. The larval stages of sp. (Nematoda) and metacercariae of (Trematoda), both potential causative agents of fish-borne zoonoses, were found in the musculature. Spatial and seasonal differences in the occurrence of currently detected helminths were discussed with data on biological and environmental conditions of particular sampling site.

This study was performed to evaluate the occurrence of perfluorinated substances (PFAS) in European perch (Perca fluviatilis) samples from Latvian freshwater bodies. Twenty-nine samples of perch tissue homogenates were analyzed on the content of PFAS representing different sampling sites to cover all territory of Latvia evenly. The total PFAS concentrations (∑) ranged from 0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the jumping abilities of three types of callitrichine monkeys, linking their performance to skeletal structure and evolutionary adaptations.
  • Results indicate a correlation between jumping performance, anatomical features, and different jumping strategies among the species, showing how body structure influences their leaping methods.
  • The findings highlight potential ways to better interpret jumping capabilities in the fossil record, suggesting anatomical and behavioral traits are key to understanding evolutionary fitness.

Polyethylene microplastics (PE MPs) have sparked widespread concern about their possible health implications because of their abundance, pervasiveness in the environment and in our daily life. Multiple investigations have shown that a high dosage of PE MPs may adversely impact gastrointestinal health. In tandem with the rising prevalence of Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in recent decades, global plastic manufacturing has risen to more than 300 million tons per year, resulting in a build-up of plastic by-products such as PE MPs in our surroundings.
